Should The Scottish Premier Be Expanded?
I would love to see a 14 team Premier, with 26 league games a season.
Each team playing each other home and away.
The Scottish Championship was only 27 games this season. So it is not a big ask to cut the league games to 26.
The main point in reducing the number of league games, is for freeing up extra weeks for cross border trophies with teams from other countries such as Northern Ireland, Wales, Poland, the Republic of Ireland, Switzerland, Austria, Greece, Portugal, England, Denmark, Belgium, Norway, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Finland, the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, Germany, Lithuania, Cyprus, Turkey, France, Russia, Romania, the Ukraine, Georgia, Slovakia or other countries.
I love the Scottish League. But cups are more unpredictable. So having more cross border cups would increase chances for more Scottish teams to win trophies.
League football is the basic diet of Scottish football. But cups add unpredictability.
I would want a cross border trophy for all Scottish Premier sides against top sides from other countries. This would be extra cross border cups on top of domestic league, domestic cup, and UEFA competition football games.
I would love to see all Scottish Premier teams being ensured competitive games against teams from outside Scotland each season. It would be fun,
In a group stage cross border trophy.
Thank you. -
