Who Will Win The 2022 World Cup?

Who Will Win The Football / Soccer 2022 World Cup?

It is the men's World Cup.

France will play Morocco in one semi-final.

While Argentina will play Croatia in the other semi- final.

All four teams seem strong, with some great players and tactical systems.

Messi will be wanting Argentina to win him his first international World Cup.

Messi is one of the greatest football players of all time.

This World Cup is being held in Qatar.

All four teams have beaten tough soccer teams to get through to the semi-final.

Could the final be Morocco v Argentina, or France v Argentina, or Morocco v Croatia, or France v Croatia?

It is a tough World Cup to predict.

Some big surprises have happened in the World Cup this year.

So I am not making a prediction.

Thanks for reading my blog. Thanks.

There was a shock in the Scottish Challenge Cup over the weekend, as Kelty Hearts defeated Linfield on penalties to progress to the next round.

Queen's Park defeating Montrose 2-0.

Clyde defeating Elgin City on penalties.

A Women's Coronation Cup 2023 - Football

A Women's Coronation Cup 2023 - Football -

I said in an earlier post there could be a soccer / football Coronation Cup for the Coronation of the new King Charles the Third.

Glasgow Celtic won the male football Coronation Cup in 1953 for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

So my idea is to bring back the Coronation Cup.

But how about a Women's Coronation Cup?

We could have teams from all the realms that use King Charles III as king.

Including Scotland, Wales, England, Northern Ireland and Cornwall putting a few teams into the trophy.

There could also be teams from Commonwealth areas.

There could be teams from the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.

There could be representative or club teams from Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Belize, Canada, Grenada, Jamaica, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Solomon Islands, and Tuvalu.

I think a new Coronation Cup would be fun and interesting. It would be great to have more cross border cups. I think the major British club sides could enter sides in a Women's Coronation Cup. Sides like Glasgow Celtic, Glasgow Rangers, Glasgow City, Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs and Dundee United could enter sides.

I do not support merging the British leagues. I support a best of both worlds, where we keep domestic and European football;, but also have extra cross border trophies.

Bring Back The Coronation Cup For 2023

Bring Back The Coronation Cup For 2023.

The last time a British Monarch was given a Coronation was for Elizabeth II on the 2nd of June 1953.

The next Coronation will be for Charles III apparently on the 6th of May 2023.

The Coronation Cup was a soccer tournament to mark the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth the Second, between 4 English and 4 Scottish clubs, held in the Scottish city of Glasgow in May 1953.

Glasgow Celtic won the important trophy against Hibernian in the final.

My idea is to bring this trophy back this time, with six Scottish clubs, six English clubs, four Welsh clubs, four Northern Irish clubs, a club from the Isle of Man, a club from Cornwall, and perhaps football clubs from Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

The trophy could be held in Glasgow, or London, or Cardiff.

It would be a good way to mark the Coronation of King Charles the Third.

I know many people are republicans or monarchists, but this is not a political trophy, it is a football trophy.

Selected Pick Of Sides Conquered By Scottish Sides List

Selected pick of sides conquered by Scottish sides

Here is a list of some of the great club sides that Scottish clubs have defeated in competitive games. I have selected a pick of the sides, they have also defeated other teams I have not mentioned. I am including a win in any individual game, including after extra time. So they may have been knocked out over two legs by the same team. I do not include penalty shoot outs, or away goals rule victories, when both games were drawn. This is purely a list of individual game wins by Scottish sides.

My European Super League View - My Structure.

I think there should be a European Super League in soccer.

My view is there has to be relegation and promotion.

A top division of 20 sides. 4 teams relegated each season.

With two second of east and west.

With two third divisions of east and west.

With a qualification tournament to get promotion to the ESL pyramid. Run like a Champions League format with the top four teams getting promoted to the third division each season.

Celtic And Rangers In European Super League

Celtic And Rangers In European Super League.

I think Scottish clubs should join a European Super League if it is created.

I think there should be relegation and promotion.

Scottish clubs would benefit from being in a European Super League.

1. It would increase the profile of Scottish clubs.

2. Scotland is in Europe.

3. Scotland has some massive club sides.

4. Scotland has a great football history.

5. It would be good to get in on the start before other teams have won tonnes of European Super Leagues.

6. Scottish football would earn big money from it.

7. Scottish clubs could start at the top tier rather than starting way down the tiers.

CHVRCHES - Warning Call (Lyric Video)

CHVRCHES - Warning Call (Lyric Video)

Glasgow Celtic And Glasgow Rangers Should Not Join The English Leagues

Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Rangers should not join the English Leagues.

The main reasons are

1)      People would think Scotland was part of England, if our biggest sides played in the English leagues.

2)      Celtic and Rangers might go decades without wining domestic trophies like other big sides like Leeds United, Everton, Spurs, West Ham United, Coventry City and Newcastle United.

3)      All the Scottish trophies would be relegated to the status of non-league trophies. So all those trophies Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs have won in over 100 years of history would be relegated to the status of non-league trophies.  So people would think Celtic and Rangers have won no trophies. Which would be a humiliating.

4)      Celtic and Rangers might have to start at the bottom of the English system. So it could take decades to reach the English Premier League. What is the point in giving up European football to play in the non-league system?

5)      They might get rid of the Scottish national side if the Old Firm joined the English leagues.

6)      We could lose a vital part of our identity.

7)      Attendances, TV rights and sponsorship would collapse in the Scottish league.

8)      Scottish clubs might never reach the Champions League group stages again.

9)      Scottish clubs would only rarely reach the Europa League group stages.

10)   The Scottish league would no longer decide who the best team in Scotland are. It would be for the teams who aren’t good enough play in the English leagues.

The Chaos Logic.

I have heard people say well Scottish football is so uncompetitive, or so rubbish, or so boring, that we have nothing to lose in getting rid of Celtic and Rangers from the Scottish Leagues.

But that is nonsense. At present we have the 8th strongest league in UEFA. We had Rangers reaching the Europa League final. And Celtic getting to the Europa conference league knockout stages.

We are not a bad league. And if we gave up Celtic and Rangers from the league our league would collapse. We would be like the Welsh and Northern Irish league. Our league champions would be beaten by teams from San Marino, Andorra and the Faroe Islands,

One of our top teams losing 7-1 to Liverpool the Champions League runners-up, is bad. But compare that to the Scottish Champions losing 7-1 to a team from the Irish league or Denmark. Which is what would happen.

We do not need to destroy Scottish football just because the Old Firm lost heavily to one of the best teams in the World.

Man Utd lost 6-3 to Man City recentely. Does that mean Man Utd should join the English bottom tier and spend 20 years working their way up again?

The well you never know attitude-

Some idiots claim that attitude of well; you never know what could happen?

But that is a apocalyptic logic.

They think that if the Old Firm joined the English leagues then the likes of Ross County, Dunfermline, or St Johnstone would start getting 20,000 fans at matches and would beat Juventus in the Champions League Final. And that Celtic and Rangers would win the EPL each year.

Well I can tell you that is fantasy land. What would really happen is.

The Scottish league would be like the Irish and Welsh league. Our teams would struggle to get over 4000 fans at matches at best. Our teams would not get further than the Europa League Group stages in Europe. Football would collapse as a national sport because our fans would all turn to English football like Ireland and Wales.

Instead of Scottish people supporting Celtic and Rangers they would support English clubs instead.

We would go from having the 8th strongest league in Europe to one of the worst 5 or 6 leagues in Europe.  And I mean a league on a par with San Marino and Andorra.

The Better Option

What I cannot understand is why we do not simply go for the best of both worlds. Where we keep our own Scottish, Welsh and English and big clubs, but have cross border cups on top of domestic and European football.

Like the best of both worlds so Glasgow Celtic, Glasgow Rangers, Aberdeen, Motherwell, Hearts, Hibs and Dundee United can still qualify for Europe, but also play extra Pan-Great Britain Cups on top of that.

Have a system where Motherwell, Aberdeen, Hearts can make lots of money from Pan-Great Britain Cups, so THEN have the finances to challenge the Old Firm for the Scottish League. So we actually have non-Old Firm teams wining the Scottish League with the Old Firm still in the league.

The Scottish have been allowed Northern Irish and Welsh sides in the Scottish Challenge Cup.

My ideas include;

1.       Bring back the Anglo Scottish Cup.

2.       Merge the Scottish League Cup, Welsh League Cup and English League Cup as the Great Britain Cup. A group stage trophy.

3.       Invite Celtic and Rangers as guests in the English FA Cup.

4.       Invite all Scottish Premiership sides not in Europe, and selected Welsh Cymru Premier sides into the English Football League Trophy.

5.       Invite all Scottish Premiership and Scottish Championship sides not in Europe and all Welsh Cymru Premier sides into the non-league FA Trophy.

6.       Invite Celtic, Rangers, two other Scottish sides, and two best Welsh league sides to play in a cross border Great Britain Premier Cup for all EPL sides that have not qualified for Europe.

7.       Have a Celtic Club Cup with all Scottish Premier sides, and selected sides from Ireland, Wales, Brittany, The Isle of Man and Cornwall.

I am not ant-English. I think we can have 3 strong national leagues in Great Britain, not just one. The English league is one of the strongest in the World.  The Scottish league is one of the strongest in Europe. But the Scottish and Welsh leagues could grow with extra Pan Great Britain Cups on top of European and domestic football.

Elite Football Is More Important To Me Than Grassroots.

Elite Football Is More Important To Me Than Grassroots.

I am Scottish. To me the major priority in Scottish football is to have great international teams, clubs that do well in European football, and for great players to come to Scotland.

I was annoyed when I read someone claim that grassroots football is the priority above the elite level of football. But I think that is a fantasy land nonsense logic.

Let me point out my main interest is for Scottish football to do well, and develop great players. I support Scotland and Scottish clubs in Europe. I want Scotland to have the strongest league, teams, players and clubs they can have.

Some Scottish people are unpatriotic and do not care about the international side.

People will claim that football is about grassroots in terms of making friends, and exercise for the whole population, and enjoyment. But that is a nonsense. There are plenty of ways for people to socialise and exercise.

We have many sports, that can be used for improving fitness and socialising. The point of our national sport is to have a sport that we as a nation at international and cross border level are strong at. And we should organise the sport of football to have strong elite sides.

The problem is that some people claim we should not have b teams in the lower divisions, simply because in their view it is damaging to grassroots level football. But that is a nonsense logic.

1.      Let me re-iterate that I do not hate grassroots level football. A national sport needs people to be playing it at grassroots level. By the very definition. But do not fob me off with nonsense that having a strong grassroots level is more important than having a high quality elite level of sport in terms of our national sport.

2.      Socialising and improving fitness can be done in many different ways. To claim that the purpose of our national sport should only be about the grassroots level football is just unpatriotic.

3.      In fact grassroots can be helped by Scottish football doing well at elite level. The better Scotland does at a sport the more likely that that sport will be taken by Scottish youngsters and attract interest from communities.

4.      If we destroy the elite level then it could destroy grassroots football. In the same way that countries with a strong rugby union sides tend to grow or remain strong at grassroots level because people are interest in sports that their nation do well at.

5.      What is the point in a country being obsessed about football if we end up being rubbish because we do not allow b teams in our lower divisions, and players rot away in non-competitive football?

6.       Elite football is what kids grow up wanting to be in. Why destroy that by having deliberately weak sides?

7.      It is not an insult to grassroots level football to have b teams in the lower leagues. Only a warped pedant thinks it is an insult. We had b teams in the lower divisions after WW2. The Spanish. Germans, Dutch, Belgians, Portuguese, Croats, and French have all had big clubs playing b teams in the lower divisions of their own nations.

8.      Some people seem to want Scottish people to support non-Scottish sides. They do not care about the quality of the Scottish national side or club sides. I want all Scottish clubs to do well, including Celtic and Rangers.

9.      The authorities in football should do everything they can to have strong international sides and club sides in European football.

10.  It is humiliating to deliberately do rubbish at international level just because some warped pedants think playing b teams in the lower leagues is an insult to smaller clubs.

11.  I want to have strong clubs in the Scottish Lowland League, Scottish Highland League and lower divisions. But that does not mean that I put a part time team finishing 3 places higher in the non-league system is more important than Scotland developing great players.

12.  Let me re-iterate I want t a strong grassroots level. But I want strong club sides and international sides from Scotland. That is part of football being Scotland’s national sport. It is integral to a national sport that a nation does well at it elite level.

13.  I want the entire population to have fun and be healthy. But do not use that as an excuse to deliberately do rubbish at elite sports as if they are mutually exclusive outcomes.

14.  I want b teams in the Scottish Challenge Cup and lower divisions, because I want a strong Scottish elite status.

Scottish Premiership And Welsh Sides In English FA Trophy

Scottish Premiership And Welsh Sides In English FA Trophy.

I think that the English FA Trophy. The trophy for English non-league sides should be expanded to include all Scottish Premiership sides that have not qualified, for Europe. Plus all Scottish Championship sides. Plus all Welsh Cymru Premier sides.

I think that the Scottish sides would add to the trophy. The English National League is of such a high standard financially and quality wise, that I think they would be a great challenge for Scottish Premiership sides.

I would love to see my fave sides playing decent English sides.

Plus the Scottish sides would get the chance to reach a Wembley final.
The Welsh sides would benefit massively from playing sides in the FA Trophy. They would be helped financially and development wise.

It could be transformational for Welsh sides to play against leading Scottish and English sides.

The Scottish have been allowed Northern Irish and Welsh sides in the Sottish Challenge Cup.
I support keeping our own leagues, and European football. But also having cross border cups on top.

For instance I would also love all Scottish Premiership sides not in Europe and selected Welsh Cymru Premier sides in the Football League Trophy also.

I think a British league would be a logistical nightmare for some Scottish clubs. But keeping it to half a dozen trips over the border each season would be easily handled.

Imagine games like Wrexham v Dundee United, The New Saints v Aberdeen, Dorking Wanderers v St Mirren, Hibernian v York City.

I do not think half a dozen trips to Scotland or vice versa would be too much for this level of side. 20 times a season would be a tough. But 5 or 6 trips a season would take little effort. It would be like European football.

Poem - From The Light  Further And Further.

I look at a candle lit up.

All that I see is my shadow and the moth.

I take a step back.

Now I see my house lit up by lightbulbs,

And in that house is my family.

I take a step back.

Now I see my street.

And in that street are a hundred houses all lit up by lightbulbs and street lights with hundreds of people.

Now I take another step back.

Now I see my city lit up by millions of lights.

And in that city is a million people living busy lives. or resting

Now I take another step back,

I see form the sky my country lit by up countless lights, candles and street lights

Now I take a step back and see my continent lit by countless lights,

Now I take another step back

And I see the Planet Earth, lit up by an infinity of lights.

Now  I take a step back and see The Solar System, lit by the Sun, shining on huge planets.

Now I take a step back.

I see my Galaxy.

Countless stars light up like diamonds in the darkness.

Now I take a step back.

And see an ocean of galaxies, lit by the Universe's quill.

Or if you are religious by God's quill.

The light from my candle seems the most powerful of all.

Is Football Scotland's Unrequited Love?

We love football more than any other sport.

We beg for our teams to win, for our country to produce great players and international sides.

We have had some success qualifying in the past for World Cups, and European Championships.

We have hosted European finals.

Aberdeen, Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Rangers have all won European trophies.

We have punched above our weight at times.

Our club sides have defeated great club sides like Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, B Dortmund, Inter Milan, Juventus, Lazio, Roma, Lyon, Sevilla, Celta Vigo, Ajax, PSV, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Porto, Sporting Lisbon, Benfica and many others.

Yet we should have richer teams, and TV deals.

We should have qualified for the later stages of the World Cup.

In some ways we have done well, while at the World Cups we have underperformed,

But it would be churlish to say we have been given nothing by football,

We have beaten great sides, won club trophies, produced some some great players like Kenny Dalglish and Denis Law,

This is a good result for Dundee United. I hope Dundee United can get through. But they need a good result in the Netherlands.

AZ Alkmaar reached the UEFA Cup Final in 1981. They have also won the Dutch title twice, and the Dutch Cup four times.
