How About Scotland Create The Scottish Football Open Cup?
This would be a straight knockout cup. But the trophy would have all Scottish Premiership sides but also invited sides from other countries in Western Europe, or Poland, or other European nations.
Plus also perhaps sides could be invited from North America, Asia, Oceania, South America, Africa, Central America.
Focussing mainly on invited sides from Western Europe.
Sides from Ireland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Scandinavia, France, Belgium, the Netherlands or other regions and countries.
Perhaps even small nations could enter national select sides, like the Faroes, San Marino, and Liechtenstein.
This would allow Scottish sides to play big foreign sides, and help the marketability of Scottish soccer.
The Scottish have been allowed to have non-Scottish sides from Wales and Ireland in the Scottish Challenge Cup. So UEFA should be OK.
Imagine if we got sides like Ajax, Anderlecht, IFK, AIK, Wrexham, Porto, Benfica, Sporting Lisbon, Linfield, Viking, Real Zaragoza, Copenhagen, Nantes, Brondby or PSG to enter.
Or even sides from the lower divisions of the big 5 Western European nation leagues.
It would be great for sides like Aberdeen, Glasgow Celtic, Glasgow Rangers, Dundee United and Hibernian to play big foreign sides every season.
This could be a group stage trophy, leading to a final. The trophy could replace the Scottish League Cup.
