Rangers managed to equalise via a Roofe goal and Tavernier then scored the winner.
Rangers will be happy to build up momentum to target a title.
St Johnstone are still looking for their first league win of the season. They have 3 points in total, from 3 draws and two defeats.
Glasgow Rangers will be looking to do well in Europe, the cups and the league.
