Play-Offs To Decide Scottish Premiership Champions.--
I think a good way to open up the Scottish Premiership in football, would be to have Play-Offs to decide who the Scottish Champions are.
My idea would be;
At the end of each season, the top 4 Scottish Premiership sides qualify for an end of season Play-Offs.
There would be two semi-final games.
The top team in the table would get home advantage against the fourth placed side.
The second placed side would get home advantage against the 3rd placed side in the table.
Then the two winning semi-finalists would play against each other in the final.
With the final being one game at either Hampden, or it could be home advantage to the team who finished highest in the regular season table of the two finalists.
The reason is that no team outside of Celtic and Rangers have won the Scottish Premiership since Aberdeen in 1985.
My idea would certainly result in Non-Old-Firm teams winning the Scottish Premiership.
Also it would create final day deciders, rather than the title race being over by February.
Play-Offs to decide the champions could increase TV ratings, and therefore increase TV deals.
It would improve entertainment, and draw in interest.
This Play-Off idea could also be done in the Welsh-Cymru Premier, and other country's leagues.
It could also be done for the women's football title in Scotland.
As far as Scottish men's football.
We already have relegation and promotion play-offs in the SPFL. So we already have Play-Offs to decide important outcomes.
Plus leagues in many sports have used Play-Offs to decide league champions. Such as rugby union, rugby league, and ice hockey.
Plus in the season 1904-05, the Scottish football top tier title was awarded to Glasgow Celtic, after a 2-1 Championship Play-Off win against Glasgow Rangers, at Hampden. This was after both teams were level on points, in the regular season league table.
The football World Cup champions itself is decided by a final match, not a league table.
