Scottish Football Teams Re-formed

Scottish Football Teams Re-formed

The phoenix club or the continuation of history. -

It seems some Scottish clubs have gone out of business, and not been re-formed. Some have been re-formed, but decades later. But often when a club takes the label of a previous club, they get counted as new club, rather than as the continuation of the original club.

I do not see why some Scottish clubs do not get re-formed at a big scale now?

Take historic clubs like Third Lanark, Renton, St Bernard’s, and Vale of Leven, which are very historic clubs who won major Scottish national trophies. Yet they did not seem to be rebuilt as phoenix clubs, straight away. Why could they not have continued to exist straight away?

Nowadays when a club goes out of business, some fans soon set up a phoenix club, and continue the existence of the original club. They tend to claim the club is a continuation of the previous club’s history, that went out of existence. I support the phoenix club owning the previous club’s history. To the point of saying both the original and phoenix clubs are the same club.

But in my view particularly Vale of Leven, Renton, and Third Lanark should straight away, have been rebuilt as clubs as continuations of the clubs that had won the trophies.

I know a new Third Lanark has been re-formed. I hope that club takes the history of the original Third Lanark, as part of the phoenix club’s history.

Vale of Leven were a very successful side in the 19th century but were discontinued around 1929.

But then a new club called Vale of Leven was re-formed in 1939. Some claim it is the same as the original club form the 19th century. I support the original and phoenix club, being seen as the same club.

My view is that the phoenix club should be allowed to be seen as a continuation of the original club’s history.

Why do some claim the new Airdrieonians are not the same came as the old Airdrieonians.? Vis a vis, Clydebank FC,

With Glasgow Rangers, there is banter from some fans that when Glasgow Rangers went into liquidation in 2012, that that was the end of the original club and a new club was formed in 2012.

Some fans claim that Rangers of 2021 are not the same as the Glasgow Rangers of 2011,

I support all Scottish clubs in Europe including the Old Firm.

And I do not want to put down Scottish football.

I support the fans of clubs seeing their phoenix club as the continuation of the original club’s history.

Look at nations. When a country is invaded and annexed, then a few years, decades, or centuries later it is re-formed. People see no problem in saying that nation was a continuation of the previous nation’s history.

I do not understand why fans would want to disregard the history of the original club? Surely all fans want to see the phoenix club as a continuation of the old history?

If I was a Rangers fan, I would want to include the history of Rangers prior to liquidation, as the history of the same club as today.

By the way, I always used to get Vale of Leven and Vale of Leithen muddled up.

Vale of Leven are from Alexandria in West Dunbartonshire.

Vale of Leithen are from Innerleithen in Southern Scotland.

St Johnstone Bring Scottish Glory To Perth.

St Johnstone Bring Scottish Glory To Perth.

St Johnstone, FC of Perth, Scotland.

St Johnstone have lifted the Scottish League Cup for season 2020-21.

A great win for Callum Davidson, the manager, of St Johnstone.

St Johnstone beat Livingston in the final by one goal to zero at Hampden Stadium, Glasgow,

Shaun Rooney scored the winning goal for St Johnstone.

It is the first time St Johnstone have won the Scottish League Cup.

It is their second major honour after their Scottish Cup win in 2014.

Although St Johnstone have in the past also won 7 second tier titles, The Scottish Challenge Cup, the B Division Supplementary Cup, and two Scottish Consolation Cups,

It is a great day for the club formed in 1884.

It is the first Scottish major trophy to go outside of Glasgow Celtic, since Hibernian won the Scottish Cup in 2016.

I am including the Premier title, the Scottish Cup and the Scottish League Cup as the major Scottish trophies.

St Johnstone had beaten Hibernian, Dunfermline Athletic, and Motherwell in the knockout stages of the trophy to reach the final.

St Johnstone had also beaten Brechin City, Kelty Hearts and Peterhead in the group stages, Plus a penalty shootout defeat to Dundee United in the group stages.

Livingston did well to reach the final. They managed to beat Alloa, Airdrieonians, Edinburgh City and Stenhousemuir in the group stages. Plus they beat Ayr United, Ross County, and St Mirren in the knockout stages.

It was a tough final. Congratulations to St Johnstone, of Perth, Scotland.

Colt Teams In the Lower Divisions Of Scottish Football

Colt Teams In the Lower Divisions Of Scottish Football.

I have written about this before. But there are new rumours of Glasgow Rangers and Glasgow Celtic wanting this again.

I definitely support having B or colt teams in lower divisions of the Scottish football system.

One manager who criticised the idea, said it should not happen, because he claimed it was not the job of Scottish football to develop Old Firm Players. But that is not fair as an argument in my view.

It is the job of Scottish football to make sure every Scottish player is developed. Whether they be playing for Celtic, Rangers, Peterhead, Aberdeen, Dundee United, or any other club.

We want our clubs to do well in Europe, and that often means having good foreign players too. But the priority is to develop great Scottish players for the international side

The priority of Scottish football should be to develop good players. The more top players we have, the better chance we have of reaching international tournaments, and even doing well in them.

I cannot understand why anyone would want Scottish players to not develop, just because they play for the Old Firm.

I support Scottish football. I want all Scottish sides to develop good players.

I want all the Scottish clubs to do well in Europe, and sometimes that means buying non Scottish players to increase the quality.

Sometimes that means young players do not get first team football. But if we allowed the big sides to have B teams in the lower divisions, then that would enable every Scottish young player playing for the B teams to get regular competitive experience.

I do not see it as a threat to the smaller clubs, to have B teams in the lower leagues.

How does a club finishing 4 or 5 places down the league system count as bigger crime against Scottish football, than the crime of letting players at big clubs go to waste?.

And I know someone will say, well Rangers and Celtic should play young players every game. But that is a nonsense. How are Scottish clubs supposed to do well in Europe and compete with other teams if they just have their entire first team made up of young inexperienced players?

What we need is a system that ensures our teams do well in Europe, but also allows young players to develop.

Having B teams in the lower league ensures this.

And it is a compliment to the lower leagues, to say this would be a good level to develop international players.

That way Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs and Dundee United, can develop their top young players and at the same time can have experienced players in their first team for games in Europe.

I think the Old Firm, plus Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen, Dundee United and Motherwell, should all have colt teams playing in the lower leagues. It would be the perfect way to ensure Scottish players get early competitive football.

This idea of B teams in the lower divisions is tried in Germany, Croatia, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Spain. We even used to do it in Scotland with the old Division C.

I cannot see why some fans claim it is offensive to have B teams in the lower leagues, when they regularly allow the Old Firm and big foreign teams to play their second string sides against their first sides in friendlies. Why is it so wrong in the competitive leagues?

It seems some fans would rather cut off their noses to spite their faces. They would rather Scottish talent go to waste.

The Old Firm will buy top players from Europe, if their own players do not develop. So it is not as if Celtic and Rangers have the biggest impact from this. It is the Scottish international team that suffers most from young Scottish players not getting regular competitive football.

I want a system in Scotland, that;

A) Develops good Scottish players.

B) Develops club teams that do well in Europe.

C) Attracts and develops good players at all the clubs.

D) Makes Scottish football have well supported clubs.

E) Helps the small teams have rich histories.

How Will The Scottish FA Celebrate Their 150th Anniversary?

How Will The Scottish FA Celebrate Their 150th Anniversary?

The Scottish FA was formed on the 13th March 1873,

So that means that 2023 is the 150th anniversary of the Scottish Football Association,

So I hope the Scottish FA and World football have big plans for the important anniversary of one of the major nations of early soccer.

Perhaps matches for Scotland, against big teams. an international tournament. Perhaps an international match against the Rest of the World, at Hampden Stadium.

Perhaps Scotland could play the reigning World Cup Champions?

2023 will also be the 150th year since the Scottish FA Cup was started.

The first Scottish FA Cup games were played on around October 1873

So some big things should be done to celebrate the big moment for Scottish football.

Maybe Scotland could host an international cub trophy with massive teams from all over Europe and the rest of the World.

Maybe Queen's Park could play a Scottish select as Queen's Park won the first 3 Scottish FA Cups.

Queen's Park versus the Rest of Scotland could be a game.

Or Queen's Park versus the Scottish international side.

Or Queen's Park versus the then reigning World Club Champions.

Or Queen's Park versus the reigning Scottish Cup Winners.

There are many ideas that could be tried.

I would love Scotland to host the World Club Championship for the year 2023, as a reward. But maybe the host for that year has been decided.

Should There Be A 16 Team Scottish Premier?

Should There Be A 16 Team Scottish Premier?

I would support a 16 team Scottish Premier. With the proviso that it would be about freeing up weeks in the schedule for extra cross border trophies with teams from other nations.

The organisation of a 16 team league would see each team playing each other twice a season. One at home and one away from home.

I think the advantage of a 16 team league is that it would allow four more teams to join the league, so giving more teams, tier one football.

It would cut the number of games in the league down from 38 to 30.

Some people would say that 30 games is not a large enough  amount of games for a season. But back to  the first season of Scottish football, there was just an 18 game season in a 10 team league.

And back in the 1899-1900 season there was still only an 18 game league season in the top tier.

In season 1905-06 there was a 30 game season in a 16 team league.

So there have been 30 games a season, or less, in many Scottish seasons historically.

My main motivation for this is to open up Scottish football to having more free weeks in the schedule to play cross border teams from other countries. That would allow more top quality opposition to come to Scotland for games.

We could have cross border trophies with small to medium sized football nations in Europe. Or we could have competitions with the clubs from North America, or Africa.

Nations like Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Portugal, or Belgium could enter club sides. But I would happy with virtually any nations.

The trophy with other nations could be a group stage trophy, for all Scottish Premier sides, or selected Scottish Premier sides. I would prefer all Scottish Premier sides. To give all Scottish Premier sides experience of European football each year.  It would be fun.

I would love games like Aberdeen v Zurich, Dundee United v AIK Stockholm, Glasgow Celtic v Ajax, Glasgow Rangers v Legia Warsaw, or Hibernian v Anderlecht.

It would open up Scottish sides to different styles of play and interesting teams and styles of football.

It would give different teams for the Scottish sides to play each year. Managers would learn about other styles of soccer. Players would learn about other styles of soccer.

The extra European trophy to be created would be on top of domestic football and on top of the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League. So it would be an extra competition to play in.

UEFA have indicated they are against cross border leagues. But so far I have not seen much indication they are against cross border cups.

I would love more cross border cups.

Rangers Draw Slavia Prague in Europa League

Rangers Draw Slavia Prague in Europa League.

I support all the Scottish clubs in international competitions, including Glasgow Rangers and Glasgow Celtic.

I want Scottish clubs to win international trophies.

Rangers have a difficult game in Slavia Prague. Slavia Prague have beaten some top teams this season and are top of the Czech Republic's League system.

It is a battle between two tough football nations, Scotland and the Czech Republic.

If Rangers go through they would reach the quarter-final, so could be close to going for the Europa League this season.

It would be amazing if Glasgow Rangers could go all the way and win the Europa League. But it would be tough to get past all the teams, including Slavia Prague.

I hope Rangers do well.

Who Should Be The New Celtic Boss?

Who Should Be The New Celtic Boss?

After the resignation of Neil Lennon. Glasgow Celtic are looking for a new boss.

There are lots of candidates who are being mentioned.

I hope Celtic can appoint someone who does well in Europe, and can develop great Scottish players.

I would prefer Glasgow Celtic to go for a Scottish boss, to give a Scottish person a top job.

There are coaches and managers with or without jobs who have been spoken of by Celtic fans.

I will now list some of the people mentioned. Obviously some of these managers have jobs already which may rule them out of the running.  As they are probably happy in those jobs.

Of Scottish managers that some have spoken of are Paul Lambert, Steve Clarke, Jack Ross, John Kennedy, Alex Neil, Gordon Strachan, Scott Brown, Shaun Maloney, Craig Levein.

Derek McInnes, and Alex McLeish would also be listed if they did not have such strong Rangers connections.

I know Paul Lambert must be happy in his present job. But I would love him to get the Celtic job.

Lambert has a super record as player in playing for Glasgow Celtic,  St Mirren, Motherwell, B Dortmund and Scotland. He has worked under great coaches like Craig Brown, Martin O'Neill, Ottmar Hitzfeld, Alex Smith, Tommy McLean, and Berti Vogts.

The record of Paul Lambert as a manager is mixed, but there has been some great successes. He is a very experienced boss, at different levels of football.  I am sure he is happy in his present job. But I would love him to coach Celtic FC.

I know there are lots of non Scottish people who have been linked with the job. But I just feel that they might not understand Scottish football. It may take them a year to learn the language, culture, and style of football. They may have no experience of how to work at a Scottish club. And who ever gets the job will probably need to hit the ground running.

Northern Irish managers have a very good record in Scotland. But I would love a Scottish manager to get the Celtic job. It might help develop another good Scottish manager.

Who Are The Most Famous Scottish Football Club?

Who Are The Most Famous Scottish Football Club?

I would think it is obviously between Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Rangers.

As Celtic have a European Cup, and a big connection with Ireland, I would expect Celtic are the best known club.

Rangers are famous in Scotland, the rest of Great Britain, and Northern Ireland.

After that I would expect Aberdeen FC, to be the most famous due to the victory in the 1983 Cup Winners Cup, against Real Madrid, and the 1983 European Super Cup Final.

But I accept Scottish clubs are not as famous as clubs from the biggest European leagues.

The most famous clubs in the World tend to from the other bigger Western European nations.

But in Scotland perhaps Dundee United might be better known than Heart of Midlothian, and Hibernian. Simply because Dundee United have achieved more in European football, such as reaching the 1987 UEFA Cup Final.

I think that clubs like Motherwell, Queen's Park, and Dundee could have big reputations.

The more supporters the clubs have the bigger the more famous the club is.

But in this article I do include how many neutrals know about Scottish clubs.

Perhaps Inverness CT, Ross County, St Johnstone, St Mirren, Livingston, Partick Thistle, Kilmarnock, Dunfermline Athletic, Raith Rovers, Falkirk, and Queen of the South have some large amounts of fame.

Dumbarton would have been a more famous clubs in the old days.

But in total it is Aberdeen, Glasgow Celtic, Glasgow Rangers and Dundee United who will be the most famous over Europe and the World.

Cross Border Club Cups With Other Countries.

Cross Border Club Cups With Other Countries. -

I think Scottish football needs to look at the some sort of cross border cup with club sides from other countries.

UEFA seem to be against cross border leagues. But they do not seem to have a serious issue with cross border cups. -

I am talking about Scottish football still participating in the UEFA Champions League, the Europa League and the new Europa Conference League. But to on top of that to create a new competition with club sides from other countries.

We could try an Atlantic League Cup, or other brand names.

A group stage trophy, with all Scottish Premier sides, or the top four Scottish Premier sides. This would ensure large amounts of cross border football for the top Scottish sides.

This way top Scottish sides could get to play top sides every season. So get higher TV revenue.

I would love to play a cross border club trophy involving other clubs sides from other European nations or sides from North America or Africa.

The most likely nations would be European nations such as Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bosnia, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Denmark, Lithuania, Sweden, Finland Iceland, Norway, Greece, Romania, Luxembourg, The Faroe Islands, Wales, Belarus, Northern Ireland, Hungary, the Republic of Ireland, Russia, Latvia, Estonia, Portugal, Cyprus, Malta, Moldova, North Macedonia, Georgia, Bulgaria, Albania, and the Ukraine.

I would love there to an extra European trophy for more Scottish sides. Cross border football is great for teams to battle not just for local honour, but for national honour. It is a way of testing how good Scottish football is. A way of playing great classy teams from other nations. A way of seeing great players from other countries, and other styles of soccer.

Aberdeen Or Hibernian For Third Place In The Scottish Premier

Aberdeen Or Hibernian For Third Place In The Scottish Premier.

It looks like the race for third this season is between the two big clubs Aberdeen and Hibs.

Hibs are now favourites as they have more points and a game in hand.

Aberdeen have been a strong team under the McInnes era. Jack Ross is proving to be a strong Scottish manager at Hibernian.

Ross and McInnes have been good mangers for years now.

The clubs need to be patient with these top managers who have brought consistent good results for these teams.

Hibs, Dundee United and Hearts have been relegated within the last 10 years. So to be battling for third in the top tier is a good success.

Hopefully Hibs and Aberdeen can do well in Europe next season.

Livingston could battle for fourth place if they continue to play well.

What Is More Important? A Good Time Or Victory? Football Experience.

What Is More Important? A Good Time Or Victory?

Football Experience Or Party Time.

What do you prefer the trip or the result?

I am referring here to when Scottish teams travel or play at home against Scottish or foreign sides.

I have met people who say what is more important on an away trip to another country, for a Scottish team is the for the fans having a good time, with their buddies. Having great memories of social interaction, and partying.

Like a holiday where your team happens to be playing another side.

Some people are more interested in the social interaction than the result.

I am quite brutal here. I prefer my team to win. Maybe that makes me boring.

But if you gave me a choice between;

1) Me being late for the game, not talking to anyone, and  my team winning,

2) Me arriving on time, having a great time with buddies and my team losing.

I think I would always choose option one. I think that is unusual in me. As most people prefer themselves to have a good time and for their team to be the side show while they have a great time with their buddies, having great social interaction and a party time.

Some Scottish fans of the Tartan Army, or the Scottish club sides, are more interested in travelling to great places like Athens, Barcelona, Madrid, Milan, Warsaw, Dublin, Copenhagen, Lisbon, Rome, Paris, Berlin, Moscow, Antwerp, Prague, Belfast, Stockholm, Amsterdam and having a great party there.

Some fans love going to places and enjoying the trip as if it is a stag party or a partying holiday.

The Tartan Army often get a reputation for being more interested in the party than the result.

I can appreciate that mentality. But I am more interested in the result.

I hope the Scottish clubs can get good results and the fans can have a good time.

Will A Scottish Team Qualify For The Champions League Group Stage Next Season?

Will A Scottish Team Qualify For The Champions League Group Stage Next Season?

If Glasgow Rangers get far in the Europa League, then the Scottish Champions could be given qualification for the UEFA Champions League Group stages for next season.

That would be fantastic for a Scottish club to qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stages.

I would love a Scottish side to play against Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, or PSG.

It is important that Scottish sides get respectable results against these teams.

So the Scottish sides should try to get an upset against these big sides if they qualify.

I support all Scottish sides in Europe, including Celtic and Rangers.

I hope a Scottish side qualifies for the 2021-22 UEFA Champions League group stages.

Here is a list of some of the great club sides that Scottish clubs have defeated in competitive games. I have selected a pick of the sides, they have also defeated other teams I have not mentioned. I am including a victory in any individual game, including after extra time. So they may have been knocked out over two legs by the same team. I do not include penalty shoot outs, or away goals rule wins, when both games were drawn. This is simply a list of individual game wins by Scottish sides.

Gretna of Scotland, were a team that played in the English league for many seasons. They qualified for the English FA Cup proper on a few occasions.

Gretna beat many English sides in their league, and cup performances.

Here are some of the teams that Gretna beat in the FA Cup Qualifying Cup rounds.

Stalybridge Celtic by Gretna.

Runcorn by Gretna.

Seaham Red Star by Gretna.

Warrington Town by Gretna.

Solihull Borough by Gretna.

Workington by Gretna.

Here is my top 30 of achievements by Scottish sides to have beaten in competitive games. I take into quality of opposition, status of team defeated, number of teams to have defeated the foreign team, and also for bonus points either regional rivalry, or the exotic novelty of the win.

1. Barcelona by Glasgow Celtic, Dundee United, Hibernian.

2. Real Madrid by Aberdeen, Glasgow Celtic.

3. Bayern Munich by Aberdeen, Heart of Midlothian, Glasgow Rangers.

4. Inter Milan by Glasgow Celtic, Glasgow Rangers.

5. Liverpool by Glasgow Celtic, Hibernian.

38. Blackburn Rovers by Glasgow Celtic, Motherwell.

39. Legia Warsaw by Rangers.

40. Sligo Rovers by Falkirk, Motherwell Under 20's.

The most glaring teams not on this list are Chelsea, PSG, Roma, Marseille, Sampdoria, Arsenal, IFK Gothenburg, Galatasary, Fenerbache, West Ham, Swansea City, Cardiff City, Newport County, Torino. Plus almost all non European teams such as Corinthians, and Santos.

No Scottish team has played Truro City, of Cornwall.

The teams beaten by the most Scottish teams seem to have been Standard Liege, Anderlecht, and Sporting Lisbon.

Scottish clubs have also beaten nations in friendlies including Striling Albion against Japan, Aberdeen against South Africa, and Heart of Midlothian against Australia.

Is Scottish Football Better At Club Football Or International Football?

Is Scottish Football Better At Club Football Or International Football?

This article is about the male game.

What do Scotland have the greatest history in? Club or international football?

Here is the club level argument.

Scottish clubs have won 3 European Trophies.

Plus Scottish clubs have reached finals of the UEFA Cup, European Cup ,and Cup Winners Cup on various other occasions. The Scottish clubs have beaten most of the biggest clubs in Europe over two legs, or in individual games.

Scottish sides have beaten famous sides such as Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Hamburg, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Everton, Man Utd, Ajax, Porto, Sporting Lisbon, Anderlecht, Monaco, Roma, Lazio, Copenhagen, Wrexham, and Sevilla.

Added to that, Scotland has produced some of the greatest teams in European football.

But Scottish clubs have not won a European trophy since 1983.

Yet Scotland is the smallest nation to have produced a European Cup winning team in Glasgow Celtic.

Although, on a side note, Scottish clubs have won the Scottish Challenge Cup since it invited teams from other countries to take part.

On the international level argument.

Scotland played the first every international football match. That was against England in 1872.

Scotland dominated football in the 19th century. And were the best team in the World in the early days of football.

Scotland have beaten Argentina, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Czech Republic, France, the USA, England, Wales, Ireland, Belgium, the Ukraine, Zaire, Uruguay, South Africa, Qatar, the Netherlands and Canada,

Wales record defeat is to Scotland.

Ireland as a united football nation in the 19th Century were beaten heavily by Scotland.

The record home defeat for England is against Scotland.

Yet on the other hand since World War Two Scotland's main achievement has been to qualify for major trophies. They have not won or reached the semi finals of the World Cup, or European Championship.

Conclusion

I would say Scotland were a great international team in the early days of international football.

While at club level Scotland had good teams in the 19th century and early 20th century, but there were no official European trophies.

Scotland did better at international football in the early days.

But their club record has been better since World War Two.

Scotland need to do well at both club and international football.

What Was The Greatest Scottish Club Success In Europe?

What Was The Greatest Scottish Club Success In Europe?

Was it Glasgow Celtic beat Inter Milan to win the 1967 European Cup Final?

Was it Aberdeen beating Real Madrid to win 1983 European Cup Winners Cup Final?

Was it Aberdeen beating Hamburg to win the 1983 European Super Cup?

Was it Glasgow Rangers beating Dynamo Moscow to win the the Cup Winners Cup?>

Was it individual results like Celtic, beating Liverpool, in the UEFA Cup?

Dundee United beating Barcelona in the UEFA Cup and Fairs Cup?

Was it Glasgow Rangers beating Leeds United to make it to the 1992-93 European Champions League Group stages?

Was it Dundee bearing Koln of West Germany 8-1 in the European Cup in the sixties.

Was it Glasgow Celtic beating Manchester United in the Champions League group stages?

Was it Dundee United beating Borussia Monchengladbach  5-0 in the UEFA Cup?

Was it Dunfermline knocking Everton out of the 1962-63 Fairs Cup?

Was it Queen's Park, of Glasgow, reaching the English FA Cup Final twice in the 19th Century.

There are many other great results by Scottish sides in Europe.

I love this song by Wolf Alice.

Scottish Clubs Should Take the Europa Conference League Seriously.

Scottish Clubs Must Take the Europa Conference League Seriously.

It is a new European competition from UEFA,.

It is technically beneath the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and Europa League.

Scottish clubs should try their utmost to win this new trophy.

I think in the present economic climate it is very difficult for a Scottish club to win the Champions League.

Only Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Rangers are big enough to win the Europa League.

But I genuinely think all Scottish Premier clubs could win the Europa Conference League.

3 Scottish sides Aberdeen, Celtic, and Rangers have won European trophies.

Dundee United have also reached a European final.

But I think any Scottish club capable of qualifying for Europe could win the new Europa Conference League.

It would be great if a Scottish club won it.

Imagine another Scottish side winning another European trophy. It would be ace.

Will PSG Win The Champions League This Year? 2021

Will PSG Win The Champions League This Year? 2021

They had a great result against Barcelona away from home in the first leg. They have some top football players. And got through to the final last year.

Only one French side has won either the European Cup, or Champions League.

So France is due another Champions League.

PSG are a massive club so could do well.

It would be a massive boost for their brand to win the Champions League.

They have a top manager as well as top players.

If they win the European Champions League it may encourage more great players to go to PSG.

Interestingly Glasgow Rangers once knocked PSG out of the UEFA Cup on penalties,

I Hope McInnes Stays As Aberdeen Boss

I Hope McInnes Stays As Aberdeen Boss.

He is a top manger with consistent record of good league positions. There is no point in getting rid of a boss just because that manager has been there for a long time.

He has always been in the top 6. And on four occasions finished second.

He won a League Cup, got some good results in Europe, developed some great players, and has had many cup finals.

Even Jim McLean only won 3 trophies at Dundee United. So it is stupid to get rid of managers when they were close to winning trophies.

This is a great song. It is very profound in it's sound.

Poem - Mortal and Immortal.

Poem - Mortal and Immortal. A Poem I wrote.

In this mortal land where flowers die, and land melts.

All human life is a fatal blow to the enemies of the soul.

Only one thing will survive for all eternity.

And that is eternally everything.

For we are all the same.

We are all the one.

For what made us and what we became cannot be destroyed.

The universe is eternal.

In this immortal world, our traces will last forever.

But where it goes is written in the stars.

And if fate is written in the stars.

And all the past is written in that which made us.

Then we call upon the stars to tell us to proclaim the Heavens to open.

The future is already told.

And welcome to the story.

Give Your Tears To The River - Poem.

Here is a poem I wrote called Give Your Tears To The River.

'Give your tears to the river.

Give your heart to the fire.

And you will never tire.

My friend.

Give your soul to the cloud.

Give your feet to the road.

This is not a secret code.

My friend.

Give your brain to the ride.

Give your fear to the tide.

Give your love to the good.

And here's one I told.

You are my friend.

Give your passion to the lives.

Give your dignity to the wives.

Give your discipline to the hive.

I am your friend.

And when this story is untold.

Do not fear the bold.

This is not a lie I was sold.

We are your friend.

Timeless and immemorial.

And one day when you look for something in the past.

I was that battle scarred burned out, twisted fast.

We were here for you in love always.

And we dreamed of you for all the days. '

Here Are Some Poems I Wrote.

 First Poem.

I have never lived in a gilded palace.

I have never faced an army of soldiers.

I have never spilled blood on the battlefield.

I am so ordinary, yet not normal.

All I want is a palace.

All I want a is a fast car

All I want is money.

Anyone can see.

It's just you and me.

Keep your feet on the ground

Keep your head in the clouds.

And you don't know where you're going.

And you don't know where you're going.

Second Poem.

Oh angel, could we become an army of one, to fight a thousand soldiers of deception?

Could we battle every force that ever lived, to enshrine our relationship?

A dream of you, is a fantasy.

Baby, can't you see? this just ain't a game to see.

You promised me a dream.

Well this is the loving scene.

A dream is just one sleep away.

Maybe there Were no angels left in the sky.

They all fell just to save a crying child.

But now they have no place to hide.

Love was the answer.

And I knew the question.

I changed my life for the better.

And you changed it for good.

Having Great Scottish Players Is More Important Than Great Scottish Managers

Having Great Scottish Players Is More Important Than Great Scottish Managers.

Scotland have had some great managers over the last 30 years. Yet the best Scotland performances tend to be when we have the best players rather than the best managers.

We need for the male Scotland side to develop great players, so that a good decent manager can make them perform well.

Of course we always need to produce good managers. But the priority is good players.

In the last 40 years Scotland has produced some of  it's greatest and most successful managers like Sir Alex Ferguson, Craig Brown, George Graham, Kenny Dalglish, Walter Smith, Jim McLean, Tommy Burns, Alex McLeish, Graeme Souness, Gordon Strachan, and David Moyes. Some of who managed Scotland. Some of whom manged teams to good European runs. Some of whom did well in major European leagues. Yet it has not resulted in the male senior Scottish international sides qualifying past the group stages of a major tournament. And in fact Scotland even went a 20 years without qualifying for major tournament, because Scotland did not have a huge selection of great players.

The better priority is for Scotland to produce great players who can play for major European sides, including in Scottish club sides.

We need to continue to produce decent mangers who can develop good players, and we need to produce good managers to manage the international side. But the priority is to produce great players in each generation.

We need club sides to do well in Europe, and we need the Scottish national team to do well.

The Scottish women's team have done well. But the male side need to develop great players.

We produced the greatest manager in the World, in Sir Alex Ferguson, but it did not make Scotland do incredibly well in international football.

It is great Scotland produced Sir Alex Ferguson. But it would have had more of an impact on the international side if Scotland had produced the greatest players.

Celtic v Aberdeen February 17th 2021

 Celtic v Aberdeen February 17th 2021

This is a tough match for both teams.

Both managers will want to avoid defeat desperately.

McInnes has been a good manager at Aberdeen FC. But some critics want to see him gone.

I do not see why McInnes is under so much pressure, as he has done a good job at Aberdeen FC. With top 6 placings for 7 years in a row. 4 runner up placings. In that time Dundee United, Hearts and Hibernian have faced up to relegation from the Premier.

There is no need to get rid of someone just because they have been in the job for a long time. When the alternative could lead Aberdeen to failure,

Antwerp v Glasgow Rangers in the Europa League

Antwerp v Glasgow Rangers in the Europa League.

This will be a tough game for Rangers. The Belgian League is a top quality historic league. Rangers winning would boost Scotland's coefficient ratings.

So Scottish teams would start further in Europe.

Rangers should aim to win the trophy. As any team in the trophy is good enough to win it at this stage. Glasgow Rangers have some top players.

As a Scottish person I support all Scottish sides including both the Old Firm sides.

Scotland needs a good reputation in soccer. And the way to do that is for Scottish sides to do well in Europe.

Scotland Should Be The Best Small Nation At Football

Scotland Should Be The Best Small Nation At Football.

As Scotland has the most passionate fans.

Scotland should do everything it can to produce top international players and keep the club sides strong.

My fave way of doing this is for the big sides to have B teams in the lower divisions. That way all young Scottish players would get an early chance of competitive football. While not damaging the quality of the first teams.

This would add depth to Scottish football.

I support Scotland doing well as the priority of Scottish soccer.

Scotland Should Have Won the World Cup or European Championship In The Seventies Or Eighties.

I think Scotland had some of the best players and managers in the World in this era. So Scotland should have got closer to winning a major trophy in this era.

Scotland had great managers like Alex Ferguson, Jock Stein, Jim McLean, and Willie Waddell.

Scotland had great players like Dalglish, Souness, Leighton, Hansen, Bremner, Lorimer, Miller, McLeish, Strurrock, Andy Gray, Cooper, McGrain, Joe Jordan,  Sandy Jardine, Archibald, Martin Buchan, Donachie, McQueen, and Law.

Plus Scotland had good players in depth in all positions.

Scotland should really have got further. Although Scotland have to take some respect for qualifying for so many World Cups in the seventies and eighties.

I liked this movie. It starred Ally McCoist, Robert Duvall, Kirsty Mitchell, and host of other names.

I liked this movie. It was entertaining. I thought this was a top movie. Some critics have criticised it. But I think it is good movie with an entertaining story.. It is one of the best movies about Scottish football.

It was an honour for Scottish football to have a movie made about it.

I think the actors were all good in the movie.

Players like Dalglish and Law would have gone for at least 10 million today. So Scotland should produce a World class striker in the near future.

Who will that be? I do not know. But surely Scotland can get back to producing incredible strikers like Scotland had in the past.

Scottish Football Club Trophy Rooms

Scottish Football Club Trophy Rooms.

Obviously in the men's game, the teams with the biggest trophy rooms would need to be Glasgow Rangers and Glasgow Celtic.

Both the Old Firm sides have won more than 100 competitive trophies each.

But the Glasgow City women's teams would need a large trophy room. They have won 14 Scottish female league titles.

In the male game Aberdeen, Heart of Midlothian, Hibernian, and Queen's Park would need large trophy rooms. With all those teams wining at least 10 national competitive trophies.

Dundee, Dundee United and Kilmarnock have all won 5 trophies each, not counting lower division trophies.

But lots of Scottish teams have won lower division trophies and lower divisions cups.

For instance Ross County have won 3 Scottish Challenge Cups.

Auchinleck Talbot  have won 13 Scottish Junior Cups.

Cambuslang Rangers  have won 5 Scottish Junior Cups.

Inverness Clachnacuddin have won 18 Scottish Highland Leagues. Elgin City have won 14 Scottish Highland Leagues. Buckie Thistle have won 11 Scottish Highland Leagues.

While the two teams who created Inverness Caledonian Thistle, won 26 Highland Leagues between them before they merged.

While Falkirk FC have won 7 second tier Scottish titles. Plus one third tier title, and four Scottish Challenge Cups. Plus their two Scottish FA Cups.

There are also trophies for fair play, youth level trophies, and pre season tournaments.

British - French Soccer Club Cup

A British - French Soccer Club Cup.

I would support a club football cup taking part of teams from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, England, and France.

There is a big rivalry between teams from these nations. The distances to travel are not too big.

Yet there would still be great cross border games. It would be fun for national rivalry.

France and Britain have a strong historic connection in their histories.

My idea is that all Scottish Premier sides could take part. Plus selected sides from Wales and Northern Ireland.

The teams from England taking part could be the all English Premier League sides that have not qualified for Europe, or all the English Championship sides.

The sides from France taking part could be all the French Ligue 1 sides that have not qualified for Europe or all the French Ligue 2 sides.

This would be a fun cross border trophy to get top quality teams playing against each other.

It could be a group stage trophy or a knockout stage trophy.

The Scots would add top teams like Glasgow Celtic, Glasgow Rangers, and Aberdeen. The English and French would add some massive sides with great histories.

The trophy would need to end in a final. This could be at one of participating team's stadiums.

Imagine games like Aberdeen v Monaco, Glasgow Rangers v Nice, or Glasgow Celtic v Nantes.

Who Will Win The Scottish League Cup for Season 2020-21?

Who Will Win The Scottish League Cup for season 2020-21?

It is between Livingston and St Johnstone in the final.

It will be the first time Glasgow Celtic have not won the trophy since 2016.

Ross County beat Hibernian 2-1 to win the final of the Scottish League Cup in season 2015-16.

Since then Glasgow Celtic have won 4 consecutive Scottish League Cups.

Celtic beat Aberdeen in two of those four finals. They also beat Motherwell and Glasgow Rangers in the other two finals.

Glasgow Celtic have won 19 Scottish League Cups in total, while Glasgow Rangers have won 27.

Livingston have won 1 Scottish League Cup in their history, while St Johnstone have won none.

It will be a good piece of history for a trophy to be won outside the Old Firm.

Someone Should Make Alex Ferguson The Movie

Someone Should Make Alex Ferguson The Movie.

It would be a good tale of what it takes to win trophies in soccer. He had great success as a manager at Aberdeen, and Manchester United.

It would be a big box office draw.

There would be lots of good action scenes, sporting drama, charisma, determination, and entertainment.

Alex Ferguson won 3 Scottish Premier league titles, 4 Scottish Cups, 1 Scottish League Cup, a European Cup Winners Cup and European Super Cup, at Aberdeen FC in Scotland.

There could be good actors to play Alex Ferguson at different ages.

I also think Alex Ferguson should be made a Lord. He would be a good person for a political office.

Scottish football clubs being famous across the planet.

Kyle Lafferty Is A Big Signing For Kilmarnock.

He has had an interesting career in Scottish football for Heart of Midlothian and Glasgow Rangers.

I think he could make a big difference for Kilmarnock with his experience and talent.

Lafferty has had a great career for Northern Ireland at international soccer.

His last club was Reggina in Italy.

He has scored many goals for Northern Ireland.

What Are Proper Football Clubs?

 What Are Proper Football Clubs?

I met someone who explained to me a silly idea.

His idea was that you needed to have certain things to be a proper football club. If you did not have all these things then you were not a proper football club.

1. To have won the European Cup, or European Champions League

2. To have a stadium that holds at least 40,000 fans.

3. To have existed for more than 100 years.

4. To have won trophies in various different eras.

5. To have a derby or historical rival of similar size.

6. To have a top scorer in your history who has scored more than 200 goals for the club.

7. To have produced internationals from your youth system.

8. To have bought some super players in transfers in some eras.

9. To have had some legendary managers or coaches.

10. To have played at the same stadium for decades.

11. To be famous all over the World.

I did not agree with him. But that was his point of view. He did not consider other clubs to be proper.

Will Scotland Do A Song For The Football European Championships?

Will Scotland Do A Song For The Football European Championships?
Often international sides do a song anthem with a pop band or rock band or music star  in the build up for their games in the tournament.

I hope Scotland can do a song for the tournament. It is always fun.

There are lots of interesting bands, singers, groups and artists who I would love to do the song.

Who would be good?

There are some great Scottish music acts around such as Lewis Capaldi, Chvrches, Rod Stewart, Annie Lennox, Texas, The Proclaimers,  Emily Sandé, Joy Dunlop, Blazin' Fiddles, Dougie MacLean, Peat and Diesel, Runrig, KT Tunstall, Franz Ferdinand, Nina Nesbitt, and others.

I wonder who the Scottish FA will choose of all the music stars to do the song?

Could Scotland Ever Win A Football World Cup?

Could Scotland Ever Win A Football World Cup?

I am talking about the male game here.

I think we have to be a realistic and ambitious.

So If we qualify we should be happy with that.

But there is no harm in dreaming. And if Croatia, Sweden, and Bulgaria can get to World Cup Semi -Finals in the last 30 years. Plus Croatia can reach the previous World Cup Final. Why can't Scotland?

We just need some great players, some luck and a good manager.

I think it is possible for a Scotland side to win a World Cup with the right players.

We need to make young Scottish players develop. And as I have said before to help do that allow the big sides to play B teams in the lower divisions. That way young players at the big clubs will be guaranteed experience from a young age.

Robert the Bruce -2019 historical film

Robert the Bruce the 2019 British historical fiction war film was a good movie.

It is a film about the Scottish King Robert the Bruce.

Robert the Bruce is one of the famous Scottish Kings.

The film starred Angus Macfadyen as Robert the Bruce. And also Jared Harris, and Anna Hutchison.

I thought Anna Hutchison was the best in the movie. She is from New Zealand. So she did well to learn the Scottish accent.

The film was not as much of a blockbuster as Braveheart. But it was fine to watch.

Graham Alexander Is Doing A Good Job At Motherwell So Far

Graham Alexander Is Doing A Good Job At Motherwell So Far.

He has had a good record as player and manager. And now at Scottish Premier side Motherwell, he has had a good start to his new job.

Motherwell have moved 5 points clear of the relegation play off, and with a game in hand.

I hope he does well at Motherwell, as I think he could be a future big manager.

He is a former Scottish international. So who knows maybe he will manage at international level one day.

He has managed lots of sides now.

Steve Clarke become Scotland manager after a great time at Kilmarnock FC.

I hope Steve Clarke manages Scotland to great success, as Clarke has already done a good job as boss.

The trophy is officially the 2020 tournament, even though it has been held in 2021.
I think they should hold this tournament in Scotland some time.

Who is Scotland's Best Player At Present?

Who is Scotland's Best Player At Present?

I am talking about the male soccer side.

There are many contenders to be regarded as the best Scottish player of the moment.

There are key players who play for great teams.

At present there are great players such as;

Andy Robertson is a great player. He plays in the EPL for Liverpool FC. He used to play for Dundee United in Scotland.

Kieran Tierney is another fantastic player for Arsenal FC in the EPL. He used to play for Glasgow Celtic.

John McGinn is another great player who plays for Aston Villa. He scores lots of goals for Scotland, and used to play for Hibernian FC of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Callum McGregor is a great Glasgow Celtic player. He has a great club record.

Stuart Armstrong is a former Dundee United and Glasgow Celtic player. He now plays well for Southampton in a top EPL side.

Scott McTominay is another fantastic player. He is a product of the Manchester United youth system. And has become a key player for the EPL giants.

Ryan Christie has become a key player for Glasgow Celtic and Scotland. He has also played for Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Aberdeen FC.

Ryan Jack is another great player. The former Aberdeen player has become a great player at Glasgow Rangers.

Leigh Griffiths is a cult hero of Scottish football. He has played for many clubs and currently plays for Glasgow Celtic. He has also played for Hibs, Livingston, Dundee, and Wolves.

Ryan Fraser is a player for Newcastle United in the English Premier League. He has played for Aberdeen and Bournemouth. He has been a key player for Scotland.

There are some other great players playing for Scotland now. Too many to mention. Players playing for top English sides such as QPR, Nottingham Forest, and Sheffield United. Plus other Scottish Premier league players.

Craig Gordon is a hey player at Heart of Midlothian of Edinburgh.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle Break Attendance Record Virtually.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle Break Attendance Record Virtually.

The Scottish football side Inverness CT FC have broken their attendance record by selling virtual tickets.

The side decided to raise money during the crisis. With fans not being able to literally get to watch the game in person, due to regulations for the virus crisis. The club have sold tickets for virtual tickets. The virtual tickets do not enable the fans to see the game, but do enable fans to fund Inverness CT FC during these tough times.

The game is Inverness Caledonian Thistle v Heart of Midlothian. The game is scheduled to take part on the 26th of February 2021.

The club have sold more tickets for a home game at their own stadium than they have ever sold before.

Should There Be A New Scottish Non-League National Cup Trophy?

Should There Be A New Scottish Non-League National Cup Trophy?

I know we have the Scottish Junior Cup. But I mean a national trophy including all the non- league sides, including sides from the junior set up and the Lowland, League and Highland League.

So I would include all Scottish Junior teams and teams from the non-league system, from the Lowland League and Highland League. Plus teams from the North Caledonian Football League, East of Scotland Football League, South of Scotland Football League, Scottish Amateur Football League, and the West of Scotland Football League.

I think the early rounds could be regional. But with the later stages of the trophy being national, leading to a final.

We already have the Scottish FA Cup, Scottish League Cup, and Scottish Challenge Cup,

But we need to have a non league national trophy for all the non-league sides of Scotland,

Or could we invite senior sides to join the Scottish Junior Cup?

To expand the number of teams that can enter the Scottish Junior Cup.

This would be a cool idea,

Thanks. -

Soccer is the national sport of Scotland

Soccer is the national sport of Scotland.

It is the sport that people seem to be most passionate about in Scotland.

When Scotland qualify for a major championships it is  massive boost for the country.

I think Scottish people love soccer.

The Scottish football leagues have great support in Scotland.

Of any sporting achievement by Scots. Scotland winning the World Cup of soccer would be the most popular achievement for Scotland.

I think Scotland could still win a World Cup if they took measures to ensure all Scottish players could develop into international class players.

Make sure the young players get experience of football.

Make sure they have great coaches and motivation to develop,

Golf, shinty, and rugby are also popular sports in Scotland. So is cricket.

And Scotland has had great success in sports like bowls, snooker, darts and tennis.

Scotland Should Join An Atlantic League Cup Of Soccer

Scotland Should Join An Atlantic League Cup Of Soccer.

As it seems we cannot have European Super Leagues, we should go for an alternative.

FIFA and UEFA seem to be against European Super Leagues.

But they do not seem to have problem with cross border cups on top of European competition and domestic trophies.

I think Scotland should direct other nation al football organisations to hold an Atlantic League Cup.

Where clubs teams from smaller European football nations join forces to have a cross border cup of their leading sides.

UEFA and FIFA allow Welsh, Irish and English sides to take part in the Scottish Challenge Cup.

They also allowed to Royal League which was a cross border cup involving teams from Norway, Swede and Denmark.

So UEFA do not seem to have a problem with nations having cross border cups rather than cross border leagues.

So we could get the best of both worlds where we keep our own domestic leagues, domestic cups, European club trophies and on top of that have cross border cups with teams from other countries

We could have teams

I would support a group stage trophy with at least 4 Scottish sides taking part straight away.

Other countries in Europe entering teams could include, Portugal, Norway, Denmark, Poland, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, The Faroes, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Wales, Cornwall, Belgium, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Greece, Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Bosnia, Serbia, Croatia, Greece, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Luxembourg, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, Cyprus, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Malta, Montenegro, North Macedonia, San Marino, Belarus.

Maybe the lower divisions of the bigger football powers of Italy, Spain, England, Germany, and France could enter teams.

I would prefer a group stage trophy. But a cross border cup is what Scottish football should look for. That is on top of domestic league and UEFA club trophies.

What will FIFA do to celebrate the 150th year of international football in 2022?

What will FIFA do to celebrate the 150th year of international football in 2022?

The first international was held in Scotland in 1872 against our oldest rivals. It was held in Hamilton Crescent, at the West of Scotland Cricket Club's ground in Partick, Glasgow, Scotland.

The 150th anniversary should be marked by a major football event happening in Scotland. Perhaps a Scotland v Rest of the World game. Or Scotland hosting the World Cup Final.

The 2022 World Cup should have been held in Scotland to mark the anniversary.

It would have been cool.

Scotland is passionate about soccer. So Scotland should have been rewarded with this event.

McInnes Should Keep His Job As Aberdeen Boss

McInnes Should Keep His Job As Aberdeen Football Club Boss.

He has earned the club millions in transfer deals, by developing players.

Plus McInnes has finished in the top 6 every season.

Plus he has reached tonnes of cup finals, and won a League Cup,.

He has taken Aberdeen to second place in the league 4 times

He is a top quality consistent boss,

I do not want to see Aberdeen gamble and almost certainly get a boss who would do a worse job as manager of Aberdeen FC.

Aberdeen FC should stick with a good boss, who has done a good job at Aberdeen,

What is point in getting a new boss who does worse?

What is the point in replacing a successful boss with a boss who fails?

Wild Rose Is A Great Movie

Wild Rose Is A Great Movie.

I recommend this great Scottish movie set in Glasgow, Scotland. It is a music drama about a young woman, who dreams of being a country music star.

It stars Jessie Buckley, Julie Walters and Sophie Okonedo.

The acting and story are great.

English Rugby Clubs In The Rugby Pro14.

English Rugby Clubs In The Rugby Pro14.

I think that English Rugby Union Championship clubs should join the Pro14.

The Pro14 is a rugby union, competition, that involves teams from Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Italy and South Africa.

The Pro14 started as a league as the Welsh - Scotland League, then it invited Irish sides in and became the Celtic League, then it invited Italian sides in, to become the Pro12, and then it invited South African sides in to be the Pro14.

My idea would be to invite big English sides from the lower tiers of the English rugby union pyramid system,

My idea is that the English sides in the English Championship could join the Pro14. Obviously there would need to be a name change, to bring in the extra teams.

There are big English Championship sides such as Ampthill, Bedford Blues, Cornish Pirates, Coventry, Doncaster Knights, Ealing Trailfinders, Hartpury University, Jersey Reds, London Scottish, Nottingham, Richmond, and Saracens, Selected sides could join the Pro14.

Also London Welsh, Rotherham Titans, Rosslyn Park, and Leeds Tykes could consider joining the Pro14.

I would love Scottish, Welsh, and Irish sides to play some big English sides each season in the Pro14.

I know Cornish Pirates would be a great team in the Pro14. Cornwall has a national identity, so could be a great participatory team in the Pro14.

Jersey Reds could be cool in the Pro14. Jersey also has a national identity.

European qualification would still probably only be available to Scottish, Welsh and Irish sides, as the English would already have qualification via the English Premiership Rugby.

Imagine clubs like Glasgow, Edinburgh, Zebra, Benetton, Scarlets, Ospreys, Dragons, Cardiff Blues, Ulster, Leinster, Connacht and  Munster getting to play sides like London Scottish, Cornish Pirates and Jersey Reds in the Pro14. -

I think South Africa may have 4 teams in the Pro14, which would make it a Pro16 anyway.
