Combined Dundee FC And Dundee United FC Honours Wins By Decade Table.

Combined Dundee FC And Dundee United FC Honours Wins By Decade Table.

The following table shows how many top tier trophies Dundee FC and Dundee United were winners or runners-up in. That is the Scottish top tier, the Scottish League Cup, the Scottish FA Cup, and the European trophies.

This is correct on September 2021.

Decade.   Wins.   Runners-Up.

1890s.       0.            0.

1900s.       0.            3.

1910s.       1.            0.

1920s.       0.            1.

1930s.       0.            0.

1940s.       0.            1.

1050s.       2.            1.

1060s.       1.            2.

1970s.       2.            1.

1980s.       2.            8.

1990s.       1.            3.

2000s.       0.            3.

2010s.       1.            2.

2020s.       0.            0.

So the 1950s, 1970s and 1980s in each decade saw when group together the Dundee clubs won 2 top tier trophies, when grouped together as a combined force.

The 1980s was the most successful decade for the combination of the 2 big Dundee clubs, with 2 trophies, and 8 runners-up spots. There was even a League Cup in season 1980-81 when the two big Dundee clubs both reached the final.

Dundee FC Honours Wins By Decade Table

Dundee FC Honours Wins By Decade Table

The following table shows how many top tier trophies Dundee FC were winners of or runners-up in. That is the Scottish top tier, the Scottish League Cup, the Scottish FA Cup, and the European trophies. This is not Dundee United. This is Dundee FC the other bug side of Dundee.

Dundee FC Winners And Runners-up List.

Decade.   Wins.   Runners-Up.

1890s.       0.            0.

1900s.       0.            3.

1910s.       1.            0.

2010s.       0.            0.

2020s.       0.            0.

So the 1900s, 1950s and 1960s saw Dundee FC have their most winners and runner-up successes.

With no trophy wins but 3 runners-up sports in the 1900s. 2 trophy wins and one runners-up spot in the 1950s. And 1 trophy win and 2 runners-up sports in the 1960s.

Dundee won trophies in the 1910s, 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.

Table Combined Trophy Success For Decades :Hearts And Hibs

Table Combined Trophy Success For Decades :Hearts And Hibs.

Correct at September 2021.

I have listed a table for each decade of combined trophy and runners-up spots for Hearts and Hibs. Hearts and Hibs are the two biggest sides from Edinburgh, in terms of soccer.

Hearts are Heart of Midlothian. Hibs are Hibernian.

On the table is the number of trophies and runners-up spots that Heart of Midlothian have had in top tier trophies. I have included Scottish top tier titles, Scottish FA Cups, Scottish League Cups, and European trophies.

Combined Hearts And Hibs Trophy Wins and Runners-Up Spots By Decades.

Decades.    Wins.      Runners-up.

1870s          0.               0.

1880s          1.               0.

1890s          4                4.

1900s          4.               4.

1910s          0.               2.

1920s          0.               2.

1930s          0.               1.

1940s          1.               2.

1950s          7.               6.

1960s          2.               4.

1970s          1.               6.

1980s          0.               4.

1990s          2.               4.

2000s          2.               3.

2010s          2.               5.

2020s          0.               2.

So the most successful decade for the combination of Hearts and Hibs was the 1950s, when together they won 7 trophies and were runners-up in six trophies.

Another good era was the 1890s when the Hearts and Hibs combination won 4 trophies and were runners-up in 4 trophies. Although it should be noted that added to this could be St Bernard's of Edinburgh who won the Scottish Cup in the 1890s. But I did not include them on the table as this is about Hearts and Hibs combined.

Also in the 1900s was another successful decade for Einburgh. Where the combination of Hearts and Hibs won 4 trophies and were runners-up in four trophies.

The worst decade for trophy success was the 1870s where neither team won or were runners-up in the Scottish Cup.

The 1930s was a poor decade for trophy success. With Hearts and Hibs between them, managing one runners-up spot, and n top tier trophies.

Hibernian of Edinburgh

Major honours;

Scottish league, first tier.

Winners 4 times: 1902–03, 1947–48, 1950–51, 1951–52.

Scottish Cup.

Winners 3 times: 1886–87, 1901–02, 2015–16.

Runners-up 12 times: 1895–96, 1913–14, 1922–23, 1923–24, 1946–47, 1957–58, 1971–72, 1978–79, 2000–01, 2011–12, 2012–13, 2020–21.

Scottish League Cup.

Winners 3 times: 1972–73, 1991–92, 2006–07.

It seems the most successful decades for Hibernian in winning trophies were the 1900s, the 1950s where they won two trophies each. In the 1970s they were 7 times runner-up in trophies. The worst decade was the 1930s where won no top tier trophies and no runners-up spots.

Other notable trophy achievements for Hibernian include the 1887 World Championship Runner-up in 1887.

Hibernian have also been Scottish second tier champions 6 times.

They have also won two Summer Cups, and a Southern League Cup.

It is also notable that St Bernard's of the city of Edinburgh won the Scottish Cup in 1894-95. But I did not include them in the table as this was just looking at a combination of Hearts and Hibs.

Rangers And Celtic Drop Points In Scottish Premier

Today Rangers and Celtic have dropped points in the Scottish Premier.

Rangers drew 1-1 with Motherwell at Ibrox.

Sakala scored for Glasgow Rangers. While Woolery scored an equaliser for Motherwell.

Celtic dropped all 3 points. With Livingston wining 1-0 at home to Glasgow Celtic.

Shinnie scored for Livingston.

Now the Old Firm are finding the Scottish Premier a tough league. With both sides struggling to build up a momentum.

Celtic are in sixth. While Glasgow Rangers are still top but only 1point clear of Hibernian and Heart of Midlothian.

New Firm Trophy Table By Decades.

New Firm Trophy Success By Decades - Table.

Correct on September 2021.

In Scottish football, Aberdeen and Dundee United are known as the New Firm. In response to the Old Firm. The New firm was a name given to Aberdeen and Dundee United to mark the competing with the Old Firm of Celtic and Rangers for trophies. This was because of the rise of Aberdeen and Dundee United from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.

Table showing for each decade the number of trophy wins and runners-up spots combined for Aberdeen and Dundee United have had in the Scottish top tier league, the Scottish Cup, the Scottish League Cup, and European trophies.

Decade.   Wins.   Runners-Up.

1900s        0.            0.

1910s        0.            1.

1920s        0.            0.

1930s        0.            2.

1940s        1.            1.

1950s        2.            4.

1960s        0.            1.

1970s        3             7.

2010s        2.            9.

So as expected the 1980s was the greatest period for the New firm, with 13 trophies, and 12 runners-up spots.

The 1970s and 1990s both saw 3 trophy wins for the New Firm. While the 2010s saw 9 runner-up spots for the New Firm, with two trophies.

Old Firm Trophies By Decades Table

Old Firm Trophies By Decades Table.

I am listing the number of trophies won, and runners-up, by the combined Scottish Old Firm of Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Rangers. I am including the Scottish top tier trophies, and the European trophies. That is the Scottish top tier league, the Scottish FA Cup, the Scottish League Cup, the European Cup, the UEFA Cup, the Europa League, the Europa Conference League and the European Super Cup.

Total Old Firm Trophy Wins And Runners-Up Spots.

So this is a combination of Celtic and Rangers together.

Decade.   Wins.       Runners-up

1870s.       0.                             2.

1880s.       0.                             1.

1890s.      11.                            8.

1900s.      13.                            8.

1910s.      13.                            6.

1920s.      14.                          10.

1930s.      16.                            5.

1940s.       6                              1.

1950s.      10.                            8.

1960s.      25.                           15.

1970s.      25.                           18.

1980s.      18.                           14.

1990s.      21.                           14.

2000s.      24.                           14.

2010s.      22.                             7.

2020s.       3.                              2.

So the most successful decade for winning trophies was the 1960s, and 1970s, followed by the 2000s.

The decade with the most runners-up spots by the Old Firm was the 1970s.

The most unsuccessful decade was the 1880s with just one runners-up spit.

The 1950s and 1980s were poor by post war standards for the Old Firm.

5 Teams Have Not Won A Game in Scottish Premier So Far

5 Teams Have Not Won A Game in Scottish Premier So Far.

Despite there being 5 games played by each side in the Scottish Premiership, five of the 12 Scottish Premiership sides have not won a league game all season. All five teams have won at least one point due to draws. The five teams not to have won a game so far are St Johnstone, Dundee, St Mirren, Ross County, and Livingston.

This compares to the Scottish Championship where only 1 side has failed to win a league game. Even then Dunfermline have only played 4 games so far this season. Raith Rovers have also only played 4 league games this season in the Scottish Championship but have won 1 league game. While all the other Scottish Championship sides have played 5 games so far this season. All the teams who have played 5 games in the Scottish Championship have won at least one game in the Scottish Championship this season.

Glasgow Rangers Winners And Runners-Up By Decades.

Glasgow Rangers Winners And Runners-Up By Decades.

Correct on September 2021.

I am listing here the number of times in each decade Glasgow Rangers have been winners and runners-up in Scottish top tier titles, Scottish Cups, Scottish League Cups, and the European trophies, that includes the European Cup, European Cup Winners Cup, UEFA CUP, the European Super Cup, the Europa League and Europa Conference League.

Decade.   Wins.    Runners-up.

1870s.       0.             2.

1880s.       0.             0.

1890s.       5.             4.

1900s.       4.             3.

1910s.       4.             3.

1920s.       9.             4.

1930s.      12.             2.

1940s.       6.             1.

1950s.       7.             5.

1960s.      12.            10.

1970s.      12.             7.

1980s.       9.             6.

1990s.      18.             3.

2000s.      10.             7.

2010s.       4.             4.

2020s.       1.             1.

So Glasgow Rangers most successful decade for winning top tier trophies was the 1990s, where they won 18 trophies.

In the 1930s, 1960s and 1970s Rangers won 12 top tier trophies in each decade. Making them the equal second most successful decades.

The decade for most runners-up spots was the 1960s with 10 runners-up spots.

So Glasgow Rangers worst decade for winning trophies and being runners-up was the 1880s where they won no national trophies and were runners-up in no national trophies.

Old Firm Lose To Real Betis And Lyon - Europa League

Old Firm Lose To Real Betis And Lyon - September 2021.

Both Old Firm clubs played in the Europa League tonight.

Glasgow Celtic lost away from home in a thrilling 4-3 defeat to Spanish sides Real Betis.

Glasgow Rangers lost at home 2-0 to mighty French side Lyon.

It is a poor night for Scottish soccer in Europe.

Rangers and Celtic will need to battle back in their next Europa League Group Stage matches.

They need to win some points to qualify from their groups.

I Hope We Exploit The Self Interest Of Scottish Clubs

I Hope We Exploit The Self Interest Of Scottish Clubs

Some people say that Celtic and Rangers only want B teams for self interest. But in my view that is not an excuse not to allow it. If we can create a system where Celtic and Rangers are motivated to give young Scottish players a good development, then so what if it helps Celtic and Rangers.

I want all Scottish clubs to do well in Europe, including Celtic and Rangers. But I also want the Scottish national team to do well. One of the ways to do that is for Scottish football to produce good players.

And one way to do that is for all the top clubs to continually produce good Scottish players.

One way to do that is for the big sides to have B teams in the lower leagues. As they do in Spain, France, Germany, Portugal, Croatia, Portugal, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Scotland Need To Produce Good Players

Scotland Need To Produce Good Players.

It seems the most realistic way of doing that is producing or buying in good coaches, and in my view giving young players opportunities at competitive soccer.

A major way to do that would be to allow the B teams of Celtic, Rangers, Hearts, Aberdeen, Hibs, Dundee United, Motherwell, Inverness CT and Dundee to play in the Scottish Highland League or Scottish Lowland League. That way young players can get early competitive football at a young age.

Scotland Should Host The World Club Championship This Year

Scotland Should Host The World Club Championship Of Soccer This Year 2021.

I think Scotland has a long history of football. The reward for this should be that Scotland should host the World Club Championship.

Scotland would make a great host, as Scotland is football obsessed.

There are great stadiums all over Scotland that could host a World Club Championship.

The big stadiums alone include Hampden, Ibrox, Celtic Park, and Murrayfield.

Scotland has good transport and logistical systems.

Scotland has a passionate support of soccer.

Scotland should be rewarded with holding the World Club Championship.

A Scottish club teams should also be in the trophy,

Aberdeen FC Need To Improve Their Results

The manager Stephen Glass is not under pressure, as it is his first full season. I am sure he will be given time. But in my view Aberdeen need to start improving their results.

Most fans are not bothered with the style of play. The most important thing is results.

Trying to finish high up the league and win trophies is the most important thing.

Aberdeen will have their happiest memories in winning trophies, and reaching finals.

Having famous wins against the rival sides is also important.

Aberdeen now have a strong squad, so some fans will have high expectations.

Clydebank FC Moving To Dublin, Ireland

Clydebank FC Moving To Dublin, Ireland.

I remember back in the nineteen nineties there was an idea for the then Scottish Football League side Clydebank FC to move to Dublin, Ireland.

The idea was that Clydebank, could stay in the Scottish League but move to Dublin, Ireland.

The idea was that Dublin is a massive city of over 1 million people, and that if the Dublin based side were playing in a full time Scottish League then they would become a big side. They would be playing big Scottish sides like Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs, Motherwell and Dundee United.

Clydebank is in Central Scotland.

In the end Clydebank FC did not move to Ireland. And there are no Irish based sides in the Scottish Leagues.

But I wonder how big a Dublin side in the Scottish League would have been.

I think they would have become a big side. One of the biggest 3 sides in the Scottish Leagues with Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Rangers.

I think that by now they would have won a few Scottish titles, cups, and qualified for Europe almost every season. Maybe they would have won a European trophy.

In the end Clydebank were bought out and moved to Airdrie, Scotland. The club was renamed Airdrie United, but then changed the name again to Airdrieonians.

In the Scots language the game of football is called fitba.

Scotland has a long history of football. So football fans all over the World should know that Scottish soccer is also called fitba.

Scotland has qualified for World Cups, defeated lots of top quality sides. and some of the Scottish club sides have won European and cross border trophies.

Scottish football is the some of the most passionate on the planet.

But people also like laughter in Scottish football. Some fans try to have a sense of humour about the game.

It Would Be Great If Scotland Qualify For The World Cup 2022

It Would Be Great If Scotland Qualify For The World Cup 2022.

I would love Scotland to qualify for a male soccer World Cup for the first time since 1998.

Scotland has a long and proud history of football. Scotland has the most passion and intensity at soccer.

The Scottish supporters would be a entertaining lot at the World Cup.

It will be difficult for Scotland to qualify. Scotland could try to qualify via the play-offs against one of the top European sides.

To get to the play-offs would be a massive effort.

I Hope There Is No Breakaway Scottish League

I Hope There Is No Breakaway Scottish League.

I support Scotland having their own national league with European qualification. But I want the SPFL to stick together.

I think the Scottish Premier League did not seem to improve Scottish soccer.

I think it is better to have the four tier SPFL. It allows teams to move up and down via promotion freely.

Clubs should be able to move up and down the league due to the quality of their football on the pitch.

Concentrating all the power in the elite clubs did not work in the days of the SPL.

I support B teams playing in the lower divisions, to develop young players. But I support helping the smaller part time sides also.

The part time clubs should be free to move up the leagues and become full time with investment.

Honduras 1 USA 4 - World Cup Qualifying September 2021

Honduras 1 USA 4 - World Cup Qualifying September 2021.

The USA will be looking to qualify for the 2022 Qatar World Cup. The USA have had a mixed record in qualifying.

Antonee Robinson, Ricardo Pepi, Brenden Aaronson and Sebastian Lletget scored for the USA against Honduras.

While Brayan Maya scored for Honduras.

The USA are still trying to become one of the superpowers of World soccer.

The population and wealth of the USA should lead to a great national soccer side. They also have sides performing in the MLS, and players playing in major European leagues.

Glasgow Celtic B 2 Gala Fairydean Rovers 0 - Scottish Lowland League - September 2021.

Celtic B had an impressive 2-0 home victory over a strong Lowland League club side.

Glasgow Celtic B have picked up momentum in the Scottish Lowland League and are rising up the table, as the seasons moves on.

Gala Fairydean Rovers is a Lowland League side from Galashiels in the Scottish Borders. Gala Fairydean Rovers were formed in 2013 from a merger of Gala Fairydean and Gala Rovers.

Glasgow City Lose To Servette

 Glasgow City Lose To Servette

Glasgow City have been knocked out of the Womens Champions League by Servette of Switzerland.

The Swiss champions won 2-1 in Scotland to go through 3-2 on aggregate.

Priscilla Chinchilla scored for Glasgow City.

While  Jade Boho Sayo and Sandy Maendly scored for Servette.

It is a blow for Glasgow City. But Swiss ladies football will benefit from Servette doing well.

Scotland Beat Austria In World Cup Qualifying

Scotland Beat Austria In World Cup Qualifying - September 2021.

Scotland had a very impressive win against Austria by one goal to zero.

The game was played in Austria.

It is one of the most impressive recent results by a Scotland team.

The game result moves Scotland up to second place in the World Cup Qualifying group.

On the same day, in the same World Cup Qualifying  group, Israel lost 5-0 to Denmark, while Moldova lost 2-1 to the Faroe Islands.

On the same day the Scotland Under 21 team has drawn 1-1 away from home against Turkey.

How About Army Teams In The Scottish Pyramid System?

How About Army Teams In The Scottish Soccer Pyramid System?

I would support the idea of army, navy,  police, fire brigade, air force, and sides playing in the Scottish pyramid soccer system.

I like the way Edinburgh University and the University of Stirling both have university sides in the Scottish Lowland League.

This allows more players and teams into the system.

I could see the the army having a team in the Highland League or Lowland League.

It could help improve the depth of the system.

Also more sides could play in the non-league system. To give more players opportunities.

Celtic Winners And Runners-up In Competitive Trophies Each Decade.

Glasgow Celtic Winners And Runners-up In Competitive Trophies Each Decade.

Here is a small table that shows which decades have been the most successful and unsuccessful for Glasgow Celtic FC up to the end of season 2020-21.

The table shows the winners and runners-up for Glasgow Celtic in all the major trophies. That is the Scottish top league, the Scottish FA Cup, Scottish League Cup, European Cup, UEFA Cup, Europa League, European Cup Winners Cup, Europa Conference League, the European Super Cup, the World Club Championship and Intercontinental Cup.

Decade. Wins. Runners-up.

1880s.      0.         1.

1890s.      6.         4.

1900s.      9.         5.

1910s.      9.         3.

1920s.      5.         6.

1930s.      4.         3.

1940s.      0.         0.

1950s.      3.         3.

1960s.     13.         5.

1970s.     13.        11.

1980s.      9.         8.

1990s.      3.         7.

2000s.     14.         7.

2010s.     18.         3.

2020s.      2.         1.

So the most successful trophy winning decade for Glasgow Celtic was the 2010s. The most successful runner-up decade was the seventies.

The least successful decade was the 1940s when Celtic had no winners or runners-up successes in the tier 1 Scottish national trophies.

I Think The World Cup Should Be Held Every 3 Years

I Think The World Cup Should Be Held Every 3 Years.

I think the Football World Cup should be held every 3 years. That way there would be more opportunities for teams to win the trophy. There would also still leave two years open for rest time and continental Cups.

I think the biggest problem is when good players miss out on every playing in a World Cup because their international teams did not qualify, or they had injuries at bad times.

If the World Cup was held every 3 years, then there would be four World Cups every 12 years rather than 3 World Cups every 12 years.

It would mean top players could get more game time in World Cups and top players would get more chances to play in the World Cup.

I also think the Rugby Union World Cup should be held every 3 years,

I Do Not Support Scotland Having A Player Draft

I Do Not Support Scottish Football Having A Player Draft.

In American sports there are often player drafts where teams select youth players with often the best pick going to the teams who performed poorly, the previous season. This allows poorer teams to improve.

But it would not work in Scottish football. It would be unfair on the players.

Why should a player be forced to go where they do not want to go, and earn far lower wages? How is that fair?

It could be the difference between a player earning thousands of pounds or having to take part time job to make ends meet The player might even give up football, rather than play part time. They might be forced to move to a city or town, where they do not want to move.

Players should be free to sign contracts with who they want. With all the information available to move to the club that well best serve their interest to develop

Plus what is to stop a vital player for the future being forcibly drafted to the a lower division side, then deciding well I would rather got to a big club in another country?

The player draft works in American sports because the clubs are largely the same size. So there is not much difference between a bottom side in the league and the top side in the league.

The clubs in the NFL, NBA and MLB are all large in size with big income streams  So you should earn good wages at any club if you are the most talented player in the draft.

But in Scotland a player draft could be the difference between going full time or part time. Are players likely to sign up to the player draft system rather than just going abroad to a bigger club guaranteed?

If you were told to go with the player draft system and sign for a lower division side, or go to a Spanish La Liga, or a French Ligue 1 side. The options are obvious.

The player draft system would not work in Scotland. It would be unfair and would encourage players to leave Scottish soccer.

Scotland need to improve their results to qualify for the World Cup.

Scotland did well to qualify for the European Championships. But it will be difficult to qualify for the World Cup. In Group F, Scotland have won one, drawn two and lost one.
