Scotland and England have won more World Cups at soccer.

As we know, the British nations have not officially been that successful at winning football – soccer world cups.

But considering the first football international outside the United Kingdom was in 1901. Does this mean that all Home international championships won before 1901 were actually de facto World Cups.

Therefore the winners of the home international championships from 1884 *the year the championship started) up till 1901 was the planet’s World Champions’

The list would be.

Listed below is who won the home international championships from 1884 to 1900.

1884 Scotland. 1

1885 Scotland. 2
1886 Scotland. 3

1887 Scotland. 4

1888 England.1

1889 Scotland. 5

1890 England. 2

1891 England. 3

1892 England. 4

1893 England. 5

1894 Scotland. 6

1895 England. 6

1896 Scotland. 7

1897 Scotland. 8

1898 England.7

1899 England. 8

1900 Scotland. 9

If this is accepted then Scotland have won a further 9 World Cups.

While England have a won a further 8 World Cups.

This makes England and Scotland the two most successful teams in world football.

Plus Scotland v England was the only international played until 1876.

Does this mean all England – Scotland games from 1972 to 1875 were also de facto world cups?

If this is the case then.

In 1872 the game between Scotland and England was drawn, so both were joint world champions.

In 1873 the games between Scotland and England, was  4-2 win for England, making England world champions.

In 1874 Scotland won 2-1 making Scotland world champions.

In 1875 the game was drawn making the teams both joint world champions.

It is hard to deny that the golden era in Scottish football, was the 19th century, when Scotland ruled the soccer world
