A player draft would not work in Scottish Football
A player draft would not work in Scottish Football
In USA sports they have a draft where the worst positioned teams gets to have first pick to select young players to play for their side. This ensures that the worst teams will get better, by getting the best players.
But this would not work in Scottish football, because the problem is that some teams would not be able to afford top young players at their side.
Also I think it should be a right for a young player to decide for themselves based on the best advice to decide which team they should go to.
If that means Rangers or Celtic get the best young players, that is OK. If they have the best record at developing players, they should get the rewards for that.
The way to ensure that the top Scottish teams are good at developing young players is to sallow them to have B and C sides in the lower leagues, so that young players can get lots of experience of competitive football at a young age.
This is done, in many European countries such as Croatia, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands. Who all have a good record at producing young players.
I want a system which produces good Scottish players, for the international side.
In the USA they claim the player draft system, ensures the leagues are competitive, in the way that the best teams do not get the best players all the time.
But I think players should decide which clubs they go to.

Attracting Top Players ot the Scottish Leagues
I remember someone once saying that all Scottish clubs should be part time. Or that we should have a salary cap. But how could we attract top players or keep top players in Scotland, if we had a salary cap or made every club part time?
Scottish fans would go over the border to watch the games, because they would want to see better players.,
Clubs should keep their finances tight, but I do not support the idea of limiting the quality of player, that plays in the Scottish game. We need to attract top players to Scotland. So Scottish people do not need to go abroad to see good players.
Look at all the great Scottish, and foreign players who have played in Scotland. They would not have stayed if wages were too low.
We need to make the Scottish League the best in Europe, and the world.

A 14 Team Scottish Premier for 2020 - 21.
I support next season having a 14 team Scottish Premier.
By promoting Inverness Caledonian Thistle, and Dundee United, while not relegating anyone from the Scottish Premier.
The teams could play each other home and away, then the top 7 and bottom 7 split. The top 7 then play each other home and away again. And the bottom seven play each other home and away again. That would equal 38 games a season.
I think this should be a permanent change. there is no reason to change the format. It would work as an idea.
It would ensure all the big sides stay in the Premier so increasing attendances.

Should we have a Scottish Super Cup?
Should we have a Scottish Super Cup, between the winners of the League and SFA Cup, each season? It is done in other countries such as Italy, Spain, and England.
In England the winers of the League title and FA Cup play each other in the Community Shield. It would be a chance for the two best teams to play each other. If a team win the double, or treble then the League runner up takes the place in the trophy of what would have been the SFA Cup champions.
Such a trophy could be high quality and an opportunity for more trophies and medals to be won.

Sharing the Welsh FA Cup of Football. 2020
Sharing the Welsh FA Cup of Football. 2020
My idea is that the Welsh FA Cup should be shared between the four remaining sides in the trophy, in 2020, because of the difficulty in playing cames while the pandemic is occuring.
Caernarfon Town, Cardiff Metropolitan University, Prestatyn Town, The New Saints.
The alternatives are to null and void the trophy, to play the games later in the year in front of crowds, or to play the games behind closed doors.
Sharing the trophy might be the preferable idea. Because playing games behind closed doors could be expensive. Postponing the games for later on could lead to fixture backlogs.
Sharing trophies has been done in the past
Examples;
1. in the Scottish League the 1891 title was shared between Glasgow Rangers and Dumbarton.
2. The old English Football Charity Shield used to be shared between teams when the result ended in a draw. They were no replays or penalties. Liverpool shared the trophy 5 times.
3. The old rugby Union Home nations Championship / Five Nations Championship was shared between teams on many occasions. Such as in 1986 between France and Scotland. Plus 1988 between Wales and France. In 1972 the five nations title was shared between all 5 teams.
How many teams could the Scottish League Support?
I think the Scottish League should could support more teams. This is a football article. As the more teams we have the more chance of players being produced. So the big sides could have B sides, and C sides, in the lower divisions. While loads more towns and cities could enter teams in the league.
Look at teams like Brora Rangers, Kelty Hearts, East Stirlingshire, Spartans, Irvine Meadow and East Kilbride entering the league.
I think we could support even 100 teams in the league with the lower divisions being regionalised.
The top two divisions could be national, with the lower leagues being divided between North and South.
Sometimes people say we should have less teams. But I do not see the point in that. All that does is cut the number of teams, capable of producing international players or top managers.
Remember Andy Robertson had a spell at Queen's Park. While Alex Ferguson had a spell as manager of East Stirling.

Shared Scottish League Title 1891
In 1891, the Scottish League Title was shared between Glasgow Rangers FC and Dumbarton FC.
Dumbarton then won the trophy outright the next season.
I always find this an interesting part of Scottish Football that the title could be shared. In football I have not found another league title where the title has been shared.
I have seen cups shared.

Should the European Rugby Cups, be shared between the remaining sides, in each trophy?
Should the European Rugby cups, be shared between the remaining sides, in each trophy?
Should the trophies be declared null and void, or played behind closed doors, just postponed or even shared between the remanaing sides?
In the European Rugby Champions Cup, the remaining games are
Exeter Chiefs v Northampton Saints,
Clermont v Racing 92,
Leinster v Saracens,
Toulouse v Ulster.
In the European Rugby Challenge Cup, the remaining quarter-final games are
Bordeaux Bègles v Edinburgh,
Toulon v Scarlets,
Leicester Tigers v Castres,
Bristol Bears v Dragons.
The old five nations and home nations championships used to be shared between joint winners, when teams were level on games won and drawn. Back in 1988 the five nations, was shared between Wales and France. The 1986 trophy was shared between Scotland and France. In 1973 the trophy was shared between all five nations.
The Scottish Football League was shared between Dumbarton FC and Glasgow Rangers in 1891.
So is 8 teams left in each rugby trophy too many teams to share the trophies?
Should the trophies be declared null and void, or played behind closed doors, just postponed or even shared between the remanaing sides?

Sharing the 2020 Football European Football Trophies.
Might the European Champions League and Europa Leagues be shared between the remaining sides?
The Champions League last 16 round was partially complete. So the teams already qualified are
Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig, Atalanta, Atlético Madrid.
The remanaing teams left over are Barcelona and Napoli, Juventus, anbd Lyon, Bayern Munich and Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid.
Is this too many teams to share the trophy?
The Europa League still has 16 teams left.
İstanbul Başakşehir, Copenhagen, Olympiacos, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Glasgow Rangers, Bayer Leverkusen, VfL Wolfsburg, Shakhtar Donetsk, Inter Milan, Getafe, Sevilla, Roma, Eintracht Frankfurt, Basel, LASK, Manchester United.
Could all 16 trams share the trophy, or should the final matches be played behind closed doors?
16 teams might be too many teams to shate the trophy. But it would be great for Rangers fans, for Glasgow Rangers to win their second European trophy. Basel would win Switizerland's first European trophy.
Sharing the 2020 English FA Cup and other English Domestic Cups.
Sharing the 2020 English FA Cup and other English Domestic Cups.
Sharing the 2020 English FA Cup and other English Domestic Cups.
There is debate over when the English FA Cup quarter-finals should be played. Should the season be declared null and void, or should the English play the remaining games behind closed doors?
I think as a football fan it would be unusual for the final and semi final of the FA Cup to be listed with an attendance of zero.
It would be odd, to see all the FA Cup finals, with massive attendances, for most seasons, and then one season the final to have an attendance of zero. Also the government may not be happy for the football games to even be played behind closed doors. As the clubs would have to travel to play each other, and there would need to other people in the stadium organising the game.
The other option is for the FA Cup to be shared between the remaining sides.
The remaining sides in the FA Cup are;
Leicester City, Chelsea, Newcastle United, Manchester City, Sheffield United, Arsenal, Norwich City, Manchester United.
It would be difficult to share the cup between eight teams. But it might be preferable to declaring the trophy null and void.
Also it would be Newcastle United first FA Cup since the fifties. Brendan Rogers would have won his first trophy at Leicester City. Ole Gunnar Solskjær will have won his first trophy as manager of Man Utd. Arteta would have won his first trophy as manager of Arsenal. Pep Guardiola will have won the cup double.
Football League Trophy - EFL Trophy 2020.
The Football League Trophy could be shared this season too.
This has one final left that is Portsmouth v Salford City.
It could make sense for this final to be declared shared. With Portsmouth and Salford City sharing the trophy for 2020.
The FA Trophy 2020-
The FA Trophy has the semi-finals left with four teams left in the trophy, they are Concord Rangers, Halesowen Town, Notts County, Harrogate Town. It could make sense for the FA Trophy to be shared between the remaining four teams, rather than being played behind closed doors or postponed.
The 2020 FA Vase is at the semi-final stage.
The remaining sides are;
Consett, Bitton, Hebburn Town, and Corinthian.
This trophy could be participated between the remaining sides, or shared between the remaining sides. It would not be too difficult to share it between four sides.
Football trophies have been shared in the past.
The first Scottish Football League title was shared in 1891 between Dumbarton FC and Glasgow Rangers FC, when they both had the same number of points.
The English Charity Shield used to be shared very commonly.
In the olden days the Charity Shield, did not have a replay or penalties. The cup would just be shared if the teams drew the final. Liverpool have been joint winners of the Charity Shield Cup five times. The last Charity Shield to be drawn was 1991 between North London rivals Spurs and Arsenal. They both shared the Shield.
The precursor to the Charity Shield the Sheriff of London Charity Shield, was shared twice. Once between Corinthian and Sheffield United, and once between Queen’s Park of Glasgow and Aston Villa.
In rugby union the six nations used to be called the five nations and before that the home nations championship. It was shared between teams on numerous occasions. With Wales and France sharing the trophy back in 1988. And Scotland and France sharing the five nations in 1986.
Wales were joint champions 12 times. Scotland and Ireland joint champions 9 times each. France joint champions eight times. And England joint champions ten times. In fact in 1973 all five nations of the five nations championship shared the trophy.
In Scotland, it might make sense for the Scottish FA Cup and Scottish Challenge Cups to be shared.
In European trophies, the trophies might be shared between the remaining sides.

Should the Scottish Cup be shared between the remaining four sides? Scottish Cup 2020
Should
the 2020 Scottish Cup be shared between the remaining four sides?
I do not want the season to be
declared null and void. The season is too far in for that too happen.
My view is declare the league
positions taking into account games in hand. That seems simple enough.
But what about the remaining
domestic cups?
The Scottish FA Cup, has a final
and two semi finals remaining.
It would be very difficult to play
the remaining games.
With lockdown. Even playing behind
closed doors would be tough due to travel, and the numbers of people needed to
play a game.
So what about sharing the Scottish
FA Cup between the 4 remaining teams, Glasgow Celtic, Aberdeen, Heart of
Midlothian, and Hibernian.
Glasgow Celtic would be the first
team to win four trophies in a row.
Aberdeen would win their first SFA
Cup since 1990.
Hearts and Hibs would both win a
trophy.
Trophies have been shared in
Scottish football before
In 1891 Dumbarton and Glasgow
Rangers shared the first ever Scottish League title.
In England the charity shield used
to be shared, when teams drew. It was shared a tonne of times. As replays and
penalty shoot-outs were not played. Arsenal and Spurs shared the charity shield
in 1991, and Liverpool shared it 5 times.
The precursor to the Charity Shield
the Sheriff of London Charity Shield was even shared between Queen's Park of
Glasgow and Aston Villa in 1899.
In rugby the home or five nations
rugby union championship was shared on many, many occasions. In fact as recently
as 1988 Wales and France shared the trophy.
In 2005 the joint winners of the Scottish PFA Player of the Rear were John Hartson of Glasgow Celtic and Fernando Ricksen of Glasgow Rangers. So even player awards can be shared in circumstances.
Play or Share the Scottish Challenge Cup Final of 2020
I hope the Scottish Football authorities agree to play the 2020 Scottish Challenge Cup Final between Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Raith Rovers, or agree to share it.
I hope they do not null and void the trophy of this year.
It has been an interesting season with great performances by Inverness CT, Raith Rovers, Glasgow Rangers, and Partick Thistle.
It would seem a waste to play tonnes of games,. then not to award the trophy, when it is just one game to complete the trophy.
It is just one final between Raith Rovers, and Inverness.
If they do not play the trophy final then it should be officially shared by the two teams.
The first Scottish Football League Championship was shared between Glasgow Rangers and Dumbarton FC. So there is precedent for sharing trophies in Scotland.
If the final is played then I would prefer the final to be played behind closed doors at a major teams training ground to a TV audience.
It would be difficult for teams to travel, but a one off journey to entertain TV audiences with a football game could be OK, as long as health standards are OK.
I would not want anyone's health to be put at risk,. so health precautions need to be taken.

Renton FC - The Greatest Club side in Scottish Football History.
Renton FC were a club from Renton in Scotland. They won the Scottish Cup twice in 1885, and 1888.
But their most successful moment was in 1888 when they became Champions of the World, by beating the English FA Cup holders West Bromwich Albion.
In my opinion, they should be reformed, and backed to grow in Scottish football.

South American Premier or Super Football League.
I think South America could try a South American Premier or Super Football League.
At present South America is behind Europe, in attracting players and fans.
So how about South America, goes a step further than Europe, and has a year long, Premier division of the elite South American teams?
I do not mean the Copa Libertadores de América. The Copa Libertadores is the South American equivalent of the European Champions League.
I am saying just like many people have been arguing for a European Super League of football.
In Europe that would mean teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, AC Milan, PSG and Porto all playing in the season long division, in a year.
I mean a real South American Super League, or Premier division.
A South American Premier Super Division of teams like Santos, Vasco da Gama, Fluminense, Flamengo, Corinthians, Sao Paulo, Botafogo, Boca Juniors, Independiente, Racing, River Plate and San Lorenzo de Almagro. Club Estudiantes de La Plata, Nacional, Penarol, Club Universidad de Chile, Colo-Colo, Olimpia, and Atlético Nacional.
The league could have two tiers, with relegation and promotion.
This would be an elite league.
It would need to be organised by the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL Spanish: Confederacin Sudamericana de Fútbol Portuguese: Confederação Sul-Americana de Futebol or CSF) is the continental governing body of football in South America.

My Scottish League Reconstruction Plan 2020
Here is
my league reconstruction idea for Scottish football, at the end of the 2019 –
20 season, to start the 2020-21 season.
Stop relegation from the Premier for
one season, and promote the top two Championship sides to the Premier.
How about this?
A 14 team Premier.
20 Team Championship.
14 team, League One North.
14 team League One South.
In the 14
team divisions the teams play each other twice, then the league splits into the
two groups of seven, the top seven, and the bottom seven, with each team
playing each side in their section twice again.
That equals 62 teams in the league
system.
That would mean having to invite 20
extra teams into the league.
Inviting
in B teams into the League.
In the Netherlands, Belgium,
Portugal, Spain, Germany, and France, big sides can play youth or reserve sides
in the lower divisions so that young players can get early experience of
competitive grown up football.
I would invite in the under 23 year
old sides of every Scottish Premier side so that young players can get
developed at a good level and become international players. This is about
Scotland producing the more top players, by giving young players more chances.
Other 6
teams.
I would promote
the top teams of the Lowland and Highland League into the League. That means
inviting in another 4 teams these would be voted in dependent on applying to
join the league by vote.
This
would increase the quality of the league. Regionalise the lower divisions so that travel
is easier for the smaller sides. And there would be a pyramid system where
teams can be promoted to and from the Lowland and Highland Leagues.

I am not talking about the Northern Irish League. As they have big supports for Glasgow Cetlic, and Glasgow Rangers, due to political and historical reasons.
What I do not understand is why people in the Republic of Ireland support foreign sides?
Ireland is a rich football obsessed country. Yet they do not have their own massive club.
I think that is ridiculous.
The teams in the Premier division
Bohemians, Cork City, Derry City, Dundalk, Finn Harps, St Patrick's Athletic, Shamrock Rovers, Shelbourne, Sligo Rovers, Waterford should be bigger.
There should be really big sides in Cork, and Dublin.
There should be a club in Dublin getting attendances of 20,000 to 30,000 at home games.
Instead tens of thousands of Irish people travel to England to watch their teams.
As a proud Scot, I think that is ridiculous. We have our own big sides, and support our own sides. So we have a relatively thriving league of two super big sides, Glasgow Celtic, Glasgow Rangers. Plus 4 other large clubs in Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs, and Dundee United. -Plus a tonne of decent sized clubs like Inverness CT, Ross County, and Falkirk.
In Ireland, Dublin should have a massive side. A city of 1 million people in a soccer obsessed nation should have a club getting attendances of at least 20,000 maybe even 30,000. Fans at home games.
I read a survey that says tens of thousands of Irish people travel to England to watch football. Imagine if they watched a club in Dublin instead.
Pride in nation
How can people proud of their own country support teams from foreign nations? I am Scottish, and I support Aberdeen, Inverness and Ross County. England is Scotland’s main rival in sport. Why would I support my main rival’s teams? I support Scottish football, not a foreign football league. Would a Welshman support the English rugby team?
Would English people support German or French sides? It makes no sense.
Would English people support foreign sides playing English sides?
In England, it is even frowned on to support another region’s club. For instance it is frowned on for Londoners to support Manchester United. Or for Newcastle people to not support Newcastle United.
I do not hate English people, but I support Scottish sides. Plus I always support Scottish sides when they play English sides, or sides from any other nation. I support my country.
Finances for nation.
Why do the Irish people want to spend tens of millions travelling to a foreign nation to support their club’s economy.? Imagine if those 40,000 Irish people went to Dublin and supported an Irish economy. It is also better for global warming. As you would get less people travelling to England for football, increasing their carbon footprint. Also major internationals both Irish and from other countries would come to live in Ireland if Ireland had their own big sides. Plus Ireland would be able to attract major sides like Real Madrid, Glasgow Celtic, and even big English sides like Manchester United, Liverpool, Everton, Manchester City, and Arsenal to play Irish sides in major European football competitions.
Glasgow Celtic
I can understand Irish people supporting Glasgow Celtic and Hibernian in Scotland as they have very strong Irish connections. Glasgow Celtic fans wave Irish flags and sing Irish songs. While Hibernian is an old name for Ireland. For instance I support London Scottish in the English rugby union leagues because of their strong Scottish connections.
I can see why Irish people in England support London Irish.
But it is nonsense for Irish people to support clubs which have no explicit Irish connection. There is no sense in Irish people supporting Liverpool, Everton, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham United, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Leeds United, Hull City, Aston Villa, or clubs like Coventry City or Sunderland.
Rugby Union Problem
I know Ireland has some massive rugby union clubs in Munster, Leinster, Ulster and Connacht. I think that is good for Ireland, and they should continue that to have big sides doing well in European sporting competitions. But they do not account for the lack of a big soccer side in football. Also Ireland has a massive Gaelic games scene. But that does not account for 40,000 Irish people travelling abroad regularly to watch English sides. Ireland should have their own big sides.
Imagine if other countries copied Ireland.
Imagine if instead of Scotland, having a professional league with Celtic and Rangers, that instead tens of thousands of Scots travelled to England to watch teams play. It would damage Scotland’s national identity.
Imagine if instead of Portuguese people having great sides like Sporting Lisbon, Porto, and Benfica, that Portuguese people instead travelled to watch Real Madrid, Barcelona, or Sevilla. It would be a loss to football.
Imagine if the Dutch instead of having great sides like Ajax, and PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord, decided to support French or German sides. It would be a disaster for the sense of Dutch national identity.
Imagine if everyone in England decided to support French or German sides. What would be the point in that? How is that supporting your own nation?
Problem of which clubs would become big.
The problem is that Dublin has many sides. So should those clubs merge, or should a new super club be founded, or should some of the already existing clubs gather higher attendances each?
PEOPLE IN IRELAND SHOULD SUPPORT IRISH SIDES.
I am not anti-English. I think racism towards English people is wrong. But Ireland should have their own big sides.
I am not Irish, I have no connection with the country. But Ireland is rich wealthy, nation with national pride and should have their own big clubs sides.
