Aberdeen Celebrate 40th Anniversary Of European Cup Winners Cup Final Victory.
40 years ago, today, on May the 11th 1983, Aberdeen defeated Real Madrid 2-1 after extra time in the European Cup Winners Cup Final.
The Aberdeen goals in the final were scored by Eric Black and John Hewitt.
The Real Madrid goal was scored by Juanito.
Aberdeen had defeated Sion, Lech Poznań, Dinamo Tirana, Bayern Munich, and Waterschei Thor on the way to the final.
It is seen by many as the greatest day in the history of Aberdeen FC.
The manager of Aberdeen FC was Alex Ferguson.
Aberdeen qualified for the European Super Cup by winning the European Cup Winners Cup trophy where they defeated Hamburger SV.
