Scottish Clubs Should Be In A European Soccer Super League

A European Super League for soccer, should have relegation, and promotion into, and from, all the countries of Europe. So that every club in Europe can have the potential to be promoted into it.

My problem with European Super Leagues is when the idea is only for the big countries and when there is no relegation and promotion.

I would have no serious problem if Scottish clubs could get promoted into the European Super League. The big clubs Aberdeen, Glasgow Celtic, Glasgow Rangers, Hearts, Dundee, Motherwell, Kilmarnock, Dunfermline Athletic, Hibs, and Dundee United could all aim to be in the top tier. So it would give all the Scottish clubs something to aim for.

-

A European Super League should not just be a closed shop in terms of participating ang teams and countries.

Scottish club sides should try and create their own European cross border league with other small to medium sized nations of Europe to get a head start on the big countries.

Thank You.

Scottish Football Should Grow In North America

Scottish Football Should Grow In North America.

Scotland should have a bigger global audience for their soccer league in the North American market. Scottish soccer is the most intense in the planet. With a rich and intense history. People in the USA, and Canada should find Scottish football interesting.

The Scottish League has a massive big history. With passionate fans, and local derbies. The Scottish soccer system should interest Americans.

People in the USA and Canada should watch Scottish soccer.

Northern European Premier Super League Proposal

My Northern European Premier Super League Proposal.

A football / soccer idea.

There are ideas to have an Atlantic League of soccer with sides from Scotland, Ireland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

I think this would be a good idea.

But here is an idea of mine.

How about a Northern European Premier Super League of teams from the smaller Northern European nations?

Teams from countries such as Scotland, the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland, Finland, Wales, Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia. The Faroe Islands, Luxembourg.

Two conferences of 20 with a play-off.

My idea would be two conferences of 20. The top 4 teams in each conference, play a play off at the end of the season. A single leg knockout trophy to decide the champion.

The positions in the conferences decide European placements.

For instance the highest placed teams from each country, get their European placements for their nation.

But the actual champion of the league is decided by the playoffs.

For instance if the highest placed Scottish side finished 3rd in one of the conferences they would get Scotland’s Champions League placement.

The domestic cups would continue with the teams in the Northern European Premier Super League playing teams from their own countries.

Promotion and Relegation

My main problem with European Leagues

My problem is when they are only open to the big countries, and are closed shops.

So my idea is the bottom two teams in each conference would be relegated.

The promotion to this league would be decided by a play off trophy between the champions and runners up of all the domestic national leagues that try to enter teams into the Northern European Premier Super League.

So for instance the remaining Scottish League would promote teams into the league via a play off, with teams from other countries.

This way qualification and relegation from the league would be open.

I would have teams from Scotland, the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland, Finland, Wales, Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia.

Where would the teams come from?

The forty teams could come from;

6 from Scotland.

6 From Poland.

2 From the Republic of Ireland.

1 from Northern Ireland.

1 from Lithuania.

1 from Latvia.

1 from Estonia.

1 from Finland.

1 from Iceland.

6 from Sweden.

6 from Norway.

6 from Denmark.

2 from Wales.

I think this league would do really well.

Also if successful then teams from France, Belgium, and the Netherlands might want to take part.

And here is an even more controversial idea,

How about two teams being invited in from North America? On the east cost of the USA, or Canada.

This would help soccer develop in the USA and Canada. I would love a team from New York to take part.

Imagine games like Aberdeen v New York, Glasgow Celtic v AIK, IFK V Glasgow Rangers, Brondby v Hibernian, Heart of Midlothian v Malmo, and Copenhagen v Dundee United.

Award For The Most Stylish Team In Soccer

The Award For The Most Stylish Team In Soccer

My idea is an award for the most stylish team in soccer each year?

When I say style, I mean entertaining fans with skill, attacking, dribbling, passing or other more aesthetically appealing aspects of soccer. I don’t mean who has the best haircut, or who is best looking, or who has the most attractive kit. I also do not mean who has the most exciting private life.

To many football fans, football is not just about winning. It is also about the style of football they perform.

To these people football is an art, that must be judged subjectively.

My idea is that each year a public poll, or panel of experts could vote on who has played the most attractive, entertaining, and stylish football of the year. The award could be on a national and international basis.

I would prefer the award to be 50% public vote, and 50% experts vote.

Some fans prefer that their team plays

beautiful or attacking football, rather than just winning trophies.

The fans of Glasgow Celtic, Newcastle United, West Ham United, and Spurs are often said to prefer attractive or attacking football to winning trophies. This may explain why Newcastle Utd and Tottenham Hotspur have not won as many trophies in recent seasons as teams of a similar size.

Some teams win trophies by playing more boring, or turgid styles of soccer.

This is why I think that teams who play the most attractive attacking or skilful football should be rewarded with an award. So we can remember teams for their style throughout the ages.

But the issue of style can have a positive impact on the team’s finances. Because attracting a domestic or international, support can be helped by the team playing a beautiful style of soccer.

We have all heard of glory hunters. The type of fan who just supports which team is winning the most trophies. But I think there are also glory hunters who choose the most stylish team of the moment, rather than who wins the most. They choose a style that reflects their self-image.
The teams of Jose Mourinho are often not as popular, with fans, as the teams of Alex Ferguson, or Jürgen Klopp have been.

Managers who develop a side that plays attractive football might do better at developing their team into a domestic or global brand than managers who choose winning over style.

How else can it be explained that Barcelona have become the richest team in football? It is not just about winning, it is also about style and skill. Messi and his beautiful play have attracted supporters.

The Klopp Liverpool side has a huge popularity, not just because they win trophies, but also because they play with an attacking style of footy.

The Manchester United team under Alex Ferguson became the best supported side in England, because they played attacking aggressive skilful football, while winning at the same time.

The ultimate for supporters is a team that plays with style and wins tournaments.

But there are teams that play attractive, football but win no trophies.

Remember the Kevin Keegan Newcastle United team of the nineties, that should have won a few trophies. But they were an attractive attacking team.

It is possible to play with a beautiful style and still win games. Take the Brazil team of the Pele era. Take the Barcelona side under Pep Guardiola. Also take the Spain team that won the World Cup in 2010.

Manchester United under Alex Ferguson. Arsenal in the late nineties and early 2000’s.

Other teams that won with style include; Glasgow Celtic in the 1967 European Cup.

Aberdeen under Alex Ferguson in the eighties.

Real Madrid in the fifties.

There are also mirror images of this. Of teams that won with a style of football, that upset opposition fans and in some cases even their own fans.

Arsenal in the late eighties and early nineties had a reputation for playing a style of football that was regarded as turgid by some opposition fans. This was so much the case that opposition fans would commonly sing, ‘Boring, boring. Arsenal.’

Arsenal fans proudly replied with their own era defining chant, ‘1-0 to the Arsenal.’ This was because Arsenal had a very strong defence at the time.

I would prefer to go further with this prize, and not just award the award to the team that win with style. I would advise the award to go to any team that plays with entertainment as their key. Even if they are relegated, or lose games with big defeats.

As entertaining the fans, with attacking beautiful football should be rewarded with an award for playing the game with style as their philosophy.

There could also be an individual award.

Once again this award would go to the player who entertains the fans. Once again I am not talking about haircuts or private life. I am talking about a player, who plays super skilful, entertaining football like Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Pele, Diego Maradona, George Best, Steven Gerrard, Gareth Bale, Figo  Kenny Dalglish, David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, George Weah, Jim Baxter, Garrincha, Ronaldinho, Denis Law, Jimmy Johnstone, Michel Platini, Paul Gascoigne, I would also add the Brazilian Ronaldo to that list. Plus I would add from the women’s game the skilful Brazilian player Marta Vieira da Silva, and the Dutch soccer player Lieke Martens.

I have to be honest. Football to me is mainly about winning. I would rather my team won with the most boring, tedious style of football you can imagine, if it meant they won trophies. As a matter of fact I would even find it quite funny if my team won with such defensive ugliness, that they became hated on an international scale.

But lots of fans and clubs honestly, and sincerely see style as more important. They would rather see their team go without trophies, and play attacking stylish football.

Let us award those fans, and clubs, for their sincerity, and honesty, with an award for the most beautiful style of playing the beautiful game. For me the most beautiful style of team, of all time, was the Spain team that won the 2010 World Cup. But who played the best style of football is subjective just like art.

This award would not even be like figure skating or ballroom dancing, where there is a set of clear criteria, that judges weigh on. This award would be like an art award. A purely subjective decision.

By the way this is not like the Fair Play Award. The Fair Play Award is given to teams for their superior morality, or self sacrifice.

My award idea is about who is playing the game of soccer with an entertaining appealing style. Fashions changes. What is stylish to one generation is not so stylish to another.

I Support Scottish Clubs Joining The Atlantic League In Football

I support Scottish football sides joining the new idea of the Atlantic League for football.

The idea of the Atlantic League is to have a cross border super league of clubs from Scotland, Ireland and Scandinavia.

The creates a huge potential market for teams, for TV rights, sponsorship, and big high quality games,

I think it is the way forward for Scottish football.

As long as there is promotion and relegation for other clubs to enter the system, I think that is fair.

At present we have a system where only the big nations can develop clubs capable of winning the Champions League or Europa League.

I want to get back to the olden days when Scottish sides could realistically hope to win the European trophies. In those days it was the European Cup, the UEFA Cup, European Cup Winners Cup and the European Super Cup.

Teams like Celtic and Rangers obviously used to get far in European trophies, and sometimes still do. But in the old days even smaller clubs like Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs, Dundee United, Dundee, Kilmarnock, and Dunfermline Athletic had long campaigns in European football. Getting to the later stages and even winning the trophies.

I add as a proviso, that there has to be relegation and promotion.

My problem with European Super Leagues is when they are only open to the big countries, and are closed shops with no relegation and promotion.

This idea seems to be have relegation and promotion. So it would be very likely that someone could invest in the smaller Scottish sides to get them into the Atlantic League.

Also I think there would have to be a share of the money given to the national leagues, as compensation for losing their biggest sides, So if the league took off it could generate more money for Scottish league sides.

I think there would be massive games like Glasgow Celtic v IFK, Glasgow Rangers v Rosenborg,  Aberdeen v AIK, Heart of Midlothian v Copenhagen, Brøndby v Hibernian, and Viking Stavanger v Malmo.

The league would give higher quality games, higher profile games.

It is also nonsense to suggest that league would be bad for smaller Scottish sides. In the present system Scottish smaller clubs cannot realistically to win European trophies. In this system they could realistically aim for promotion to a league that could give them the resources to attract major international and win European trophies.

Thanks.

I Support Scottish Clubs Joining the Atlantic League In Football.

It is football / soccer idea. =-

Keep Scottish Football Strong

Keep Scottish Football Strong.

Football is a strong part of the Scottish identity and history.

Let's keep supporting the Scottish side, in international matches, and the club sides against sides from outside Scotland.

Keep Scottish football as a passionate, and intense game.

Scotland should always have seat at the top table. Because Scotland helped invent and create football at international level.

Up with Scottish soccer.

Stay supportive of Scotland doing well at the sport.

Football at altitude or different climatic conditions.

Football at altitude or different climatic conditions.

Many teams struggle to play against teams in high altitudes in sport.

So should a team take advantage of this and build a stadium on a floating airship?

Imagine it!

Loads of teams struggle against international or club sides when trying to acclimatise to the conditions. So how about a team take advantage of this. Train their players at incredibly high altitudes and low temperatures. Then no foreign side could adapt to their new climatic conditions, and would lose.

In football loads of teams have blamed failure to adapt to climate or altitude for losing. So could a team go to extreme and use human made weather conditions to make it even more difficult to adapt to the conditions?

Could teams use weather changing technology to alter the weather on a day of a match?

I doubt that many teams would do that.

I hope Scotland do well in the European Championships of soccer

I hope Scotland do well in the European Championships of soccer.

This is the male European Championships version of the trophy coming soon.

Scotland beat Serbia on penalties to qualify.

Scotland qualified for a major championships at the male version of the sport, for the first time in over 20 years. It has been a long wait.

The Scotland male side should be proud of their performance.

I hope Scotland get far, and do Scotland proud.

Scotland has a rich, history, and passionate following of football, and deserves to do well.

Thanks for the great victory.

Music And Football Stadiums

 Music And Football Stadiums.

There are many concerts held at the biggest football stadiums. I have seen a few. Often football (soccer) stadiums hold music festivals or concerts.

The concerts must make money for the music stars and football clubs and also give people at the grounds a fun time.

I know of people who have been abroad to watch concerts at massive football stadiums in Barcelona and other great European stadiums.

Sometimes the concerts are held at major stadiums, like Celtic Park, Ibrox, Karaiskakis Stadium, Stade de Suisse, Stadio Olimpico (Rome), Stade de France, Hampden, the San Siro, Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux, Estádio da Luz, Estádio do Dragão, Estadio Municipal de Balaídos, the Camp Nou,

Great stadiums like the National Stadium, Warsaw (Poland), have held concerts.

But sometimes the smaller football grounds hold concerts or festivals which can be fun too.

I suppose the biggest issue is what to do with the pitch. As the pitch can get damaged by music concerts or festivals.

Football stadiums are built to provide great atmospheres for sports games. So they should provide a good atmosphere for a rock, pop, or hip hop concert.

Football stadiums tend to be outdoor. But you can find indoor stadiums, that can provide protection from the rain, and snow.

I have also seen rock groups performing songs before sports matches on special occasions. That can be fun too.

American football stadiums, rugby stadiums, basketball arenas, and baseball stadiums also hold concerts.

There are national stadiums built for many different sports that hold concerts too.

I wonder if the designers of stadiums just focus on the sports or also take into account the money making potential of music at their stadiums?

It is great for people who loves sports and music to have sports and music at the same venue.

It is great Scotland qualified for the European Championships

It is great the Scotland male side qualified for the European Championships.

The penalty shootout against Serbia was exciting. I am so glad Scotland got through. For me Scottish international football is the highlight of soccer / football. Showing what the nation can do is the priority.

We still do well at club football on a club level, taking into account our population. But we need to be more consistent at qualifying for major trophies as an international team. The Scotland women's team did well to qualify for the Women's World Cup and European Championships in recent years.

Congratulations to Scotland.

PAN-GREAT BRITAIN CUPS AT SOCCER

PAN-GREAT BRITAIN CUPS AT SOCCER

I am putting forward the idea that the football authorities in England should help football in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

I do not support merging the British leagues. I support Pan-Great Britain cross border cups on top of domestic and European competitive football.
I do not want to get rid of the national domestic leagues. I want a best of both worlds where we keep domestic and European football, but have on top of that cross border cups.
I want to have 3 strong leagues in Great Britain, rather than just one or two.
In recent years, English, Welsh, and Irish sides have been invited to play in the Scottish Challenge Cup. So UEFA would be OK with cross border trophies.
I do not want to get rid of Scottish, and Welsh sides playing in Europe. I do not want to abandon over 100 years of football history and identity by getting rid of the Scottish and Welsh Leagues.
There are various ideas that could be tried for cross border cups;
1. A British Premier Cup - Played between all Scottish Premier and Welsh Premier sides. Plus all English Premier sides who have not qualified for Europe.
2. Invite all Scottish Premier sides who have not qualified for Europe, plus a selection of Welsh sides into the English Football League Trophy. That is the trophy played by English League One and Two sides.
3. Invite selected Scottish and Welsh sides into the English FA Cup or English League Cup.
4. Invite all Welsh Premier sides and a selection of Southern Scottish sides into English non-league FA Vase and FA Trophy.
5. Allow Glasgow Celtic, and Glasgow Rangers to play under 23 year old sides in the English under 23 year old trophy called the Premier League Cup of England.

If the English really want to help Celtic soccer then having cross border cups on top of domestic and European soccer is the way to help us.
Imagine games like Manchester United v Glasgow Celtic, Aberdeen v Coventry City, Glasgow Rangers v Wrexham, Dundee United v Luton Town, Holywell Town v Peterhead, Dundee v Manchester City, Inverness Caledonian Thistle v Wolverhampton Wanderers, Ross County v Wrexham, Ross County v Notts County, Stoke City v Greenock Morton, Dumbarton v Connah's Quay Nomads, Bangor City v Chester City, Hibernian v Newport County, Liverpool v Heart of Midlothian, or Motherwell v The New Saints.

The Irish sides could be invited into the trophies too.

I would want Pan-Great Britain cups all the way down the levels at male and female soccer, and at different age groups. It would really help Celtic soccer.

What is the biggest side in Scotland?

What is the biggest sports side in Scotland?
Obviously it is between the major football teams Glasgow Celtic, Glasgow Rangers, Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs, Motherwell, Ross County, Dunfermline Athletic, Inverness CT, and Dundee United.
Perhaps even Glasgow City of the women's league could be the biggest side?
Perhaps the biggest side is the Scottish male or female national football side?

Maybe even the biggest sporting side is the male or female Scottish rugby union side?
Or also from rugby, the Glasgow Warriors or Edinburgh Rugby might be the biggest side.
Maybe even the Glasgow Rocks from basketball?

Maybe even Scotland at the Commonwealth Games is the biggest sports side in Scotland.
Perhaps the Scottish cricket side is the biggest sports side in Scotland?

Perhaps the ice hockey sides that currently include Edinburgh Capitals, Braehead Clan, Fife Flyers and Dundee Stars are the biggest sides in Scotland?

My view is the biggest side in Scotland, is the Scotland national football side, bigger than all the club sides, and other sports sides.

Thanks. -

I hope Scottish football gets big sponsors, attendances and TV ratings.

I hope Scottish football gets big sponsors, attendances and TV ratings.

That way the league could make more money. So the league could attract and develop better players.

By having more money, the league can attract the best players in the World.

That way Scottish sides would be bigger and would be able to compete with the major European and World sides.

It would be great for Scottish sides to win the major European trophies.

At present only Aberdeen, Celtic, and Rangers have won UEFA trophies.

Glasgow Celtic win the European Cup in 1967.

Aberdeen won the European Super Cup, and European Cup Winners Cup in 1983.

Glasgow Rangers won the European Cup Winners Cup in 1972.

Although Dundee, United, Celtic and Rangers have also been runners up in various European Trophies.

Plus Dundee United, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, and Ross County have won the Scottish Challenge Cup while it has had teams from outside the Scottish Leagues competing in it. So that is like a European trophy.

Thanks.

Heart of Midlothian should have a bigger stadium

I think Heart of Midlothian should have a bigger stadium. They filled their stadium when they were in the Premier.

So they should expand their stadium further. That way more fans will be able to watch Hearts, and the club will get bigger finances and be able to challenge the big Scottish sides for trophies.

So Tynecastle should be expanded to I would say 28,000. Hearts could be a big European club then, in terms of the smaller nations.

How about regional European trophies in European football?

Like, North West European Cups, North East European Cups, South East European Cups and South West European Cups. This would help cut travel for European trophies.

That way teams would not have to travel too far for games.

At present teams are travelling all over Europe, when that might be too far to travel.

Maybe we could regionalise the trips. By having regionalised trophies.

At present it is possible to travel from Iceland to Kazakhstan for European games.

A Scottish soccer team should tour India

A Scottish soccer team should tour India

I think a Scottish soccer side should tour India.

There is a big market which could be open to Scottish football.

Scottish players would get to play in a interesting location in Asia.

I think it could be a Scottish soccer club or a national representative side.

India is going to be the most populated nation on the planet soon.

So it would be great if Scotland could be a good part of modern Indian football history.

I do recognise the British Empire controlled India. And lots of Scottish people were involved in that.

But I am talking about Scotland being a part of the more modern part of Indian football history.

I know India is often called Bharat, or Bhārata by many.

We need to market Scottish football to international audiences. So we get good Sponsorship and TV deals for Scottish football. This would result in more money and more chances to get even better players.

Allowing foreign teams to use Scottish sides as feeder sides?

Should Scotland allow foreign teams to use Scottish sides as feeder sides?

Allowing foreign teams to use Scottish sides as feeder sides?

This could allow big sides in the major leagues like France, Spain, and Italy to buy up Scottish smaller part time sides and use the teams to develop players from all over the World.

This would allow major stars of the future, the opportunity to start their careers in Scotland.

This may be fantasy but it would be great if big clubs as big as the likes of PSG, Barcelona, Real Madrid, or Roma bought up small Scottish sides and used them to develop players. It would be fun for the fans to see future superstars. I do not know if PSG, Real Madrid, Roma, or Barcelona would ever want to buy up a Scottish side to develop players.

I think big Scottish clubs would not benefit from this. But a small Scottish side might get players and investment to take them up a few levels.

Scotland should play an international football match in Shetland

At some level, Scotland should play an international football match in Shetland.

Perhaps the Scottish non-league team should play a friendly against the Faroe Islands in Lerwick?

Perhaps the Scottish Highland League could play a select team of Highland League players against the Faroe Islands?

It would be fun for the players to play an international side.

Selected Pick Of Non-Scottish Sides Beaten By Scottish Sides

Selected pick of sides conquered by Scottish sides

Here is a list of some of the great club sides that Scottish clubs have defeated in competitive games. I have selected a pick of the sides, they have also defeated other teams I have not mentioned. I am including a win in any individual game, including after extra time. So they may have been knocked out over two legs by the same team. I do not include penalty shootouts, or away goals rule victories, when both games were drawn. This is purely a list of individual game wins by Scottish sides against non Scottish sides.

The order shows the name of a European team with a list of Scottish teams who have beaten them in Europe.

The most glaring teams not on this list are Chelsea, PSG, Roma, Marseille, Sampdoria, Arsenal, IFK Gothenburg, Galatasary, Fenerbache, West Ham, Swansea City, Cardiff City, Newport County, Torino. Plus almost all non European teams such as Corinthians, and Santos.

No Scottish team has played Truro City, of Cornwall.

The teams beaten by the most Scottish teams seem to have been Standard Liege, Anderlecht, and Sporting Lisbon.

Scottish clubs have also beaten nations in friendlies including Striling Albion against Japan, Aberdeen against South Africa, and Heart of Midlothian against Australia.

Sean Connery played for Bonnyrigg Rose

The famous Scottish actor Sean Connery played for Bonnyrigg Rose in Scotland.

He was a famous actor. Most famous for Bond. I loved the Bond movies, and the movies called  Highlander, and The Man Who Would Be King.

He was famed all over the World, as a superstar.

He had controversial views, and was known as one of the most famous actors of the 20th Century.

I hope there is a close title race this season.

I hope there is a close title race this season in the Scottish Premier of soccer.

It would be great if Glasgow Celtic, Glasgow Rangers, Aberdeen, and Hibernian all have a close title race for the Scottish Premier this season.

It would attract more fans to Scottish football if there is a close title race.

Imagine going into the final game with the title outcome still up in the air.

I would love it if Aberdeen or Hibs won the league this season too.

Scottish football fans deserve a real title race this season.

It would attract big TV audiences, and would please sponsors as a result.

I hope there is a close title race this season. -

Thanks.

The New Firm Derby V The Old Firm Derby

The New Firm Derby of Aberdeen V Dundee United is a big derby in the North East of Scotland.

The Old Firm Derby is a big derby between Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Rangers.

I like to see both derbies. The Scottish League also has the Edinburgh Derby, the Fife Derby, the Highland Derby, the Ayrshire Derby, the Lanarkshire Derby, the Tayside Derby and the Dundee Derby.

There may even be soon the Aberdeen Derby in the Scottish League with Aberdeen v Cove Rangers.

The Old Firm Derby is the biggest derby by audience. Although if Aberdeen played Dundee United in the Champions League Final that would be different.

Obviously the Old Firm Derby is the best known Derby.

Is the Old Firm Derby the most passionate in World football?

Is the Old Firm Derby the most passionate in World football?

I think it is.

I am Scottish and support Scottish clubs in Europe. But the Old Firm tend to be passionate in their intensity for the Old Firm Derby, between Glasgow Celtic, and Glasgow Rangers.

It has politics, history, passion, and football rivalry behind it.

The rivalry has been around for well over 100 years.

Scottish football is the most passionate and intense in World soccer.

Glasgow, in Scotland, is a football city. ---

It would be great to see Scotland reaching a World Cup, or European Championships.

They last qualified at senior level at the 1998 World Cup.

I think Scotland should look to nations like Denmark, Uruguay, Wales, Croatia, and the Czech Republic as inspirations. As inspirations of small nations getting far in major tournaments.

Who is bigger Celtic or Rangers?

Who is bigger Celtic or Rangers?

I think it is a tough debate.

Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Rangers have supporters all over Scotland, the United Kingdom, Europe, and the World.

I do not know if there have been any Rangers or Celtic fans in space yet.

Maybe with space tourism taking off, the two teams might have had a few fans in space soon.

I wonder who will have the biggest fan base in space?

Celtic and Rangers have massive supports, mostly in Central Scotland.

The best way of working out who has the biggest support would be to look at who has the most social networking website members.

Look at the main providers of social networking sites, that have Glasgow Celtic and Rangers as members. Then see who has the most subscribers or friends, or contacts.

That is my preferred choice of seeing who has the biggest support.

But that changes with time, as new members join the internet social networking sites.

Thanks. -

Connection between Edinburgh and Inverness football names

Interesting connection between Edinburgh and Inverness, in terms of football club names in the eighties.

Connection between Edinburgh and Inverness football names

When I was growing up I noticed a funny connection between the teams of Edinburgh and Inverness, that used to exist. Firstly Edinburgh is the capital of all of Scotland. Inverness is the capital of the Scottish Highlands.

But in terms of the name, for instance in 1985;

Inverness had 3 teams playing in the Scottish Highland League.

Edinburgh had 3 teams in the Scottish Football League.

The Inverness teams were called, Inverness Thistle, Caledonian, and Clachnacuddin.

The three Edinburgh Scottish Football League soccer teams were called Heart of Midlothian, Hibernian, and Meadowbank Thistle.

So that is three teams in each league.

The other connection;

The name Hibernian is derived from the Latin name for Ireland.

The name Caledonian is derived from the Latin name for Scotland.

The other connection;

Meadowbank Thistle.

Inverness Thistle.

So two teams called Thistle.

The other connection;

Heart of Midlothian.

Clachnacuddin.

Midlothian is a place.

Clachnacuddin is a place in Inverness.

Now of course, by 2020, that has all changed.

Caledonian and Inverness Thistle merged to create what is now Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the nineties.

Meadowbank Thistle moved to Livingston to become Livingston FC.

Now there is just one team from Inverness in the Scottish Highland League, that is Clachnacuddin. While ICT play in the SPFL.

The Scottish Professional Football League system now has 3 teams from Edinburgh again, after Edinburgh City were promoted from the Lowland League system.

Those 3 teams of Edinburgh in the SPFL are now Heart of Midlothian, Hibernian, and Edinburgh City.

Edinburgh could have more clubs promoted to the leagues such as Spartans.

Other Edinburgh club include Civil Service Strollers, Edinburgh University, Spartans,  Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale, Tynecastle, Craigroyston, Edinburgh South, Edinburgh United, Heriot-Watt University, Leith Athletic.
