Clan v Clan Soccer Trophy – Scottish Football Trophy.
In the history of Scotland, the clans have been an important
part of our identity. There are famous clans in Scotland such as the Clan
Campbell, Clan Mackenzie, Clan MacDonald and Clan MacLeod.
There have been battles and political strife between clans.
My idea is to have soccer teams based on the clans.
In New Zealand they have the New Zealand Maori rugby union
team. So things like this can happen.
I would not want this idea to support racism. So to play for
a clan team you could be of any race.
How closely you are related to the clan could be decided by
other people better educated and qualified than me.
Things like surname, family background, including marriage or
adoption could decide it. You could look back many generations to qualify for a
clan side. Like they have the grandparent rule in international football.
Imagine a game played at Hampden for the MacDonald clan v
the MacLeod clan.
Players could compete from all over the world.
The tournament could be all played at the same location like
a mini tournament. Or over various team’s stadiums, like a Champions League
trophy, with a group stage followed by a knockout round. Or it could be like Scottish
FA Cup trophy where teams play from a knockout round straight away. With teams
being drawn home or away.
I think a clan trophy would be fun.
Other regions and nations could have their own versions of
clan trophies, with tribal and family loyalties.
It could be sponsored by different companies or the
government.
This clan v clan trophy idea could also happen in shinty,
golf, rugby union, tennis, Highland games, athletics, bowling, snooker, pool, rugby
league, penalty shootout trophy, Aussie rules football, baseball, gridiron, cricket,
golf, lacrosse, rowing, basketball, netball, volleyball, Gaelic games, ice hockey,
field hockey, boxing, martial arts, disabled sports, polo, equestrian sports, chess,
darts, swimming, climbing, dancing, and other sports, and competition ideas.
